Hi Jane, what domain are you referring to? I can see two in your account already, both which you bought through Moonfruit (one in 2010, one this year). Both are hosted by Gandi (they are our domain partner) but you access them through Moonfruit. If you have gone directly to Gandi then they will always send account details (with Handle) to the registered email address. So that's odd you've not had a reply.

I'll get one of the support team to set up a ticket for you and get more details so that we can resolve this for you quickly.

I bought my domain name through Gandi and transfered it to my Moonfruit account. I have been trying to log into gandi to sort out pointing the DNS record to Moonfruit but have never received my gandi 'handle'. I have also never received any e-mails from them with this info. My customers are having difficulty using paypal and it's losing me business. Have phoned paypal but no problem there. Have e-mailed gandi asking them to send handle etc again. Their website is VERY difficult to understand and now I want to cry.

Hi aimless,

You have two options depending where you are situated. If you live in the UK you can simply point your root domain (without the www) and subdomain (with www) to our IP address of 146.101.249.107. So yes the A-record for the root and www domains need to be pointed.

If you live outside the UK we have some caching servers set up globally to improve the speed of access to your site by you and your visitors. This requires use of the CNAME record on your sub domain. The root record doesn't use this system so you simply set up the A-record as highlighted above. But the www version of your domain needs the CNAME go direct to:
cdn.sitemakerlive.com

The key point is how user friendly your domain name provider and you've not given me much to go with regards your domain so I can do a look up and see who it's hosted with. But if all you do is the first option and point both the root and sub domain then you won't have a problem.

Let me know if that makes sense. And as for delays, I am sorry. Again if you'd given me details on your account I could have checked our Support System for your queries and speed of response.

am having huge problems pointing to the moonfruit ISP that it tells me to point to for my own domain. is it just the a record I need to change/ add or do I have to do the Cname record as well??
Even when all my DNS records are as told by support the website can still not be found my ISP insist that it is all correct whT COULD THE PROBLEM BE?
i'M GETTING FRAZZLED BY THE DELAY IT TAKES TO GET ANY ANSWERS BY ANYONE AND MEANWHILE HAVE A WEB DOMAIN THAT IS USELESS sorry about caps
Can anyone help?

How soon after amending your domains did you check. Or have you modified it since? It is now working correctly and both the www and root domain show that they are set up correctly.

In my admin-site addresses, myaddress.com gets a green check mark and works, but the www.mydomain.com does not work. no green check mark.

For those looking for how to do this with Godaddy:

Go to your domain control panel.

Select the domain.

When the next page opens scroll down to where the text link for Total DNS is.

Click on that.

Choose the one that has the @ symbol... You'll see a little edit icon to the far right. Click that.

Paste 146.101.249.107 over the IP address already listed there. Takes 24-48 hours usually.

I have now reset my dns 3 times with easily.co.uk but my website keeps going offline and when I go back into the account section at Moonfruit, it asks me to reset the information to make my domain live. Why does it keep flipping out? I only find out my site is inactive when clients ring me and its getting to be a real pain.
I have had everyting reset over and over at easily but they say it is still set up with the moonfruit IP address and its not at their end. Can anyone throw any light on this please?

Hi Phil,

Just as it says in the panel, just add your domain name to the list. Just drop (copy and paste) your domain name (www.yoursitename.com) in the bottom field and click add. That will tell our system to expect a domain pointing at your site. This should be the last thing you need to do to up your domain name.

In my domain control panel I have the DNS A record set up correctly. 146.101.249.107 at FastHosts
But what do I have to do in Moonfruit?
I dont see a tab in Admin> Site Addresses

"Simply contact your domain name provider and ask them to 'point' your 'DNS A record' to the Moonfruit servers at 146.101.249.107 (our IP address). Then log in to your site, open the Site Addresses tab on the Admin panel and add your domain name to the list"

Hi Everyone. We have a lot of customers that seem to be getting stuck here. For anyone having problems, simply ask your domain name host or helpdesk to "Change the DNS A record IP for domain name mydomain.co.uk to 146.101.249.107". This will get you a quick resolution. Oh good, thanks, Joe. Mind you, looking at my Technical Settings over at Gandi, I see that I have both methods in operation - pointing to Moonfruit's servers AND masked forwarding. I presume I should delete the masked forwarding then (?). I'll do that now and see what happens.

Hi Stefan, don't worry I've looked at your site and you've done it perfectly. If you use the DNS A record method (pointing), you don't need to use masked forwarding. By changing the DNS A record you get both to keep your URL visible to the browser (not moonfruit's URL) and you get correctly indexed and with working paypal. You cannot do both the DNS A record change and do masked fowarding. So you've done it right, don't worry about it! Thanks, Joe

Let me get this straight... despite having purchased my domain from Gandi (Moonfruit's sister company) and setting the DNS A record to point to 146.101.249.107 (Moonfruit's servers), and selecting Masked forwarding so that my treasured domain is what my visitors see in the address bar, I'm going to have problems with PayPal and Search Engine Indexing?

If that's correct, then is there any kind of a workaround, or am I asking for the proverbial 'moon on a stick' here?

All very interesting and I managed to get 123 to point to the IP address given - now I have another problem, I used to be able to put in my web address into google and it found it but now it does not, any ideas? have I done something wrong. My site is still 'under construction' but I do intend it to be a business and need to get the search engines to bring my site up when I type in the address.
Any help appreciated

I have my domain registered with 123-reg and pointed the A record to the IP address 3 days ago now and still nothing. Do I need to put anything in the 'Name' field of the A Record?
