That feature is already available - you can disable the site background by going to Design -> Background. However, please be aware that your site is still Flash-based, whether you have the background enabled or not.

Hi, It has come to our attention that the HTML snippets and widgets used in our website do NOT stay still when viewed on other web browsers ie: Internet explorer. I use firefox and all is where it is supposed to be.
This is causing us real problems and i would love a solution to solve this problem, We even have customers calling us to inform us that they cant read information on the website as out HTML widget is in the middle - to the side - all over the place... help

Thanks for the kind words of support.

Yes our team are looking at providing forms in the HTML view. But it is by no means a trivial bit of work. One of the major concerns we have is that once you place a form on a HTML page you open it up to spam abuse. We are considering some sort of Captcha [http://www.captcha.net/] mechanism which isolates human from machine driven contact to stop the site owner being hit with lots of spam/junk mail.

But the bottom line is, yes we are working on this feature.

Hi, I have worked with moonfruit for 5 years now and love how its progressed over the years.
I've been worried lately that I'd have to look at another way of building sites to be compatible with the iphones etc, but as always moonfruit are one step ahead.. and i'm very pleased with the latest release.
One question though, will the 'contact us' and 'submission' forms been available to view and use on the iphones - is this something you guys are working on?? Thanks, Kelly

Hi, i have had a response stating there may be a restore point? I constantly save as I go in case things go wrong, but I'm still awaiting a response from my last reply stating the time today this had occurred. If you are able to restore my site from a "save" point, i cannot see why it would take so long to resolve.

I have submitted a ticket already, but I am really frustrated.
Updating items on my websites store has for some reason lost me all my store items and paypal buttons within certain pages. I have tried to find people who have had similar problems to try and resolve this myself but nothing is going right and I am receiving emails of complaints as customers cannot place orders.

Hi,

The HTML snippet widget uses a top layer in the browser to allow the insertion of HTML over your site. It will always operate above your site's menus and edit tools so you will have to move or resize the widget to ensure it clears all elements underneath it.

Hi Marcus,

Sure. Once you've logged in go to Design on the Toolbar and click on Background in the side panel. This will open the Global Design Settings panel at the background tab.

Use the On or Off radio button to toggle your back ground on or off.

That's pretty much it.

We've added a new setting to allow you to turn off the Flash background of your site so that the HTML background is shown across the full browser. This allows you to achieve the 'full screen image' or 'chunky header/footer' styles that are common in the new contemporary web look and feel. How about a full screen image, shove in a few rounded corner shapes with drop shadow under your text boxes for legibility and bish-bash-bosh there you have it ;-)

Hey Joe / Walt - do you remember this in your original post? "We'll publish a dedicated article on just this topic in the next couple of days"

I understand that a lot of fire fighting has been required since this release that has no doubt diverted your attention but it's now over a week and I for one could do with some help in fathoming how the script for HTML works - it seems to have a mind of its own sometimes.

NB. I found a workaround to for getting objects to appear in the HTML but not in the flash. Simply produce a JPEG or PNG and 'bring to front' then set transparency to 99% - Bingo it doesn’t show in HTML but will appear in the mobile version.

The New addition to the mobile build is pretty good, my site, not so hot, cause i modified the site to build in my own menus on all my sites thru the master page. So, in doing so, mixed with all my PNG images really destroy the new mobile version, but after ya'll work out everything your going to do to the mobile build, i will make adjustments for myself to work things out... :) Other than that, great job busting your buns on the mobile build. However, what is going to happen, and what can you do to be ready for the 2.2 android Release that is suppose to work with Flash 10.1 or is it Flash 10.2? something like that....

You have your domain houseofistria.com assigned to the houseofistria1.moonfruit.com. Whereas your domain www.houseofistria.com was still assigned to your deleted site houseofistria.moonfruit.com. Ive now reassigned your www domain to the active site. Can you please retest.

Hi guys,

not sure if this is the right place to post but im having an issue with my mobile- my website wont display at all, ive got a blackberry. I downloaded Bolt to see if it would display in a different browser, no luck there either. It still says I need adobe Flash player yet other 'usually flash' sites show on my phone no problem.

Also, I have changed the website my domain name is attached to. I have created another moonfruit site and transferred it 24 hours ago, but the domain name is still showing the old site. Im not sure what else to do?

Yes that is a bug. We are working on it and should be pushing a fix for that out tomorrow.

Also of note for everyone: We have now released the following bug fixes (these are the major ones):

1. Opening a different site from 'Your sites' tab in Account now allows you to log you into that site again
2. Clicking arrow next to the page name on Organise Pages panel is now opening that page as normal
3. Password reset is now working correctly
4. Some sites generated internal server error on view mode - fixed
5. Login page content on some sites were not being displayed - fixed

We have a more we are looking at will continue roll out fixes as quickly as we can.

Hi monique: We are aware of some bugs that need fixing. In fact a few mentioned above including the Organise Pages bug have fixes ready to go. The saving edits is one we are still checking. We chose to put the stability of the service (after Friday's speed issues) over bug fix releases - well for about 48 hours at least so we could monitor the service and ensure it was OK.

Kyle: Yes that is a bug we expect to have fixed tomorrow.

Walt, re the Copy Site function. Maybe I am the only user that does this, but the Copy site function seems like the only way a user can do any sort of back-up during site development - or have I missed some function for doing that? I am reasonably confident that Moonfruit can get back copies if I had a major issue, but still - with all the problems going on with the releases right now, I am very nervous not to have this function - maybe I will to stop development.

As someone who has been an IT consultant for 30 years, I would have to say that removing function in a release focused on enhancements is very bad practice - you should secure all the existing function BEFORE adding things like mobile support - otherwise you don't have a release. I think if I was running a commercial site, like many people do on Moonfruit, I should be very concerned about this and would want to see much better control.

Of course, everyone wants new function - I, for one, count the days until the new blog function arrives, but lets get the basics right, first.

I think putting the copy site function back should be very high up on the list of things to address, certainly higher up than any further functional enhancements.

Hi Neil: Yes we'll be looking to fix this as quickly as we can. It is exhibiting some strange behaviour.

Steve: No the Copy Site function has been temporarily removed. When we updated the data structure of the software there were a few items (mostly minor) we didn’t have time to update. This function (while not minor) was one we didn’t have time to address before the release as the copy site function is quite complicated and it will take us some time to update and test. It will require a lot of work so it could take weeks. But it is coming back - that is certain.

All you guys on about compensation, get real - if your site was making that much money you would be spending £100+ per month on a server/web hosting.. it really annoys me to see ppl complaining.. moonfruit is brilliant and as i said before, all new updates get teething issues. Hi guys,

Yep as of about 9pm tonight (21:00 GMT) we stabilised the service and so far so good. In a nutshell, we reconfigured our database to provide more processing power when we realised we were suffering a slow down in service. This action which was neither quick nor simple but it did succeed in bringing our our request response times to normal. Which means your sites load quicker. We'll perform some analysis over the next few days to investigate what caused the initial problem but for the moment we want to simply keep an eye on things to make sure everyone's sites are displaying properly in reasonable time.

There's obviously still a few bugs we need to fix - a few we do have fixes for like the Organise Pages panel, reset Password email, amongst others - but these will not be going out till Monday. Our main concern at present is to ensure the service is stable over the next 48 hours.

We would like to thank everyone for their patience. This was an exceptional event and one we know had a big impact on our customers. Once we get a handle on what caused this drop in service we'll let you know.

Give us a break! the whole site has been a mess since wednesday! you have constantly promised fixes to the issues but nothing has worked and the issues have been much more severe than you guys have admitted.

Totally agree, the last few days has been terrible and a huge loss of business and orders, like others have google and facebooks ads, plus have just done a massive mailshot to all catholic schools in UK for First Communion, if you want to see how this downtime has effected your business just look at your google analytics!
What can moonfruit do? to be compenstated with a voucher etc will not bring back the customers you have lost, they have now gone elsewhere.
Its so frustrating and time wasting that you are unable to update the website during downtime, what we need to see or request is moonfruits customer service agreement and contingency plan .

Yes we have several test environments before we push releases out. However, it's difficult to test things at the same scale as the production systems. This was the reason for a few tweaks following the release on Wednesday.

Today's issue is not necessarily related to the release. Once we've resolved the issue we'll be able to give an overview of what has caused it. I'm sorry I can't give you anything else at the moment, but we're continuing to work on it. Many thanks,

Joe, thanks for the response. It now makes sense as to why objects below others do not appear. I still think it would be useful to have some of these appear though. I would suggest perhaps adding a tick box to any element to that of something like “show in HTML” so we can choose what bits we want to appear.

I now also see why my buttons are not appearing. When I need a non standard MF menu (which is quite often) I sometimes cover a link button with a coloured box with the text/shape I want cut out of it. Thus the link button only shows through the text or shape I have cut out of the box when I hover over it (if you are following me) but the button still works. So having another object on top of the link button means it will not show the info on the button in the HTML according to your rules and thus some of my ‘homemade’ menus will not appear. As flash will not show any way in the HTML, might it be possible to change the script to ‘any object below a flash element will show in the HTML’?

Looking forward to seeing the article explaining more soon as I’m sure this will answer other questions and allow users to design for all mediums.

@JJ thanks for your detail feedback, that's very helpful. The issue of 'old logos' reappearing may be something in the data format change (I'll investigate), as it could be we're corrected some data that was previously broken and it has caused it to come back.

As for the HTML version comments this may be a function of the current rules in our algorithm for assessing your sites contents. We'll publish more in a specific article on this, but when we look at the contents in your site we attempt to discard 'noise' so that we get a clean HTML view of the important things, e.g. text, images, links, etc. One of the ways we assess if things are important is whether they are covered up by other objects. So if you have an image underneath a text box, the image is deemed to be less important than the text and related to site styling (which isn't completely preserved in the HTML) so is removed. So this will be why the PNG you put behind the Flash didn't show up and may be why some images don't either.

As for the link buttons, they should all render normally unless they are covered up by other objects (which is unlikely). For image map widgets we do try to preserve the link on the image, but if there are other objects covering the image the whole thing might be ignored. If you give me a specific URL I can take a look. We are interested in additional test cases for when we revise the script with the objective of solving some of these problems.

The instances where objects have been put to the front I have now corrected so cannot show you but I can tell you that I first noticed this after I found a couple of Title Text Boxes labelled ‘Logo’ that had suddenly appeared on two of my sites and contained the text used in the Site Name. I eventually worked out these must have been items I left on the site when it was first created and had since put other elements in front of them. I am assuming these were the “logos” automatically generated from MF from the site title that appear when you very first create a site.

The second instance of this was when I was experimenting yesterday. I use flash banners a lot and some of these contain the site logo. I was trying to see if I could place a JPEG/PNG behind the flash element so that when displayed in HTML format a logo would still be visible. Unfortunately it appears that any elements that are not “to the front” do not display in the HTML version. This is a shame – could you look at this perhaps? Anyway I had left the JPEG underneath the flash header yesterday and today I found it on top (and in the wrong position as this was not important when hidden behind the flash header).

One other thing that may have been missed or needs to be looked at IMHO is the representation of Image Maps and Link Buttons in the HTML version. Quite a lot of my sites have the main navigation or extra paths designed with image maps and link buttons. I can see it is going to be tricky to match image maps to the objects they sit over however to my uneducated eye this surely could be possible with link buttons? EG. One of my site’s menus is 100% made up from link buttons so of course in the HTML view no navigation shows up essentially turning it into a one page website.

+ Lastly – not sure if this is part of the problems with caching & performance today (reminds me of the days of dial-up internet) but some uploaded files are displaying and some are not in the HTML. This might just be me but I have found that most of my JPEGS appear but some (not all) PNGs have the “x in a box” type symbol instead of the picture.

Is something happening that we should be aware of? I have been going through some of my sites checking what they look like in the HTML version and it appears that most of my sites are not displaying some of the pages in HTML at all. It seems the first few pages of a site are OK but the second half of the site is blank where there should be text and pics. Also the pics are being displayed intermittently in HTML version in that there is a little box with an ‘x’ in it sometimes where the pic should be. Also I have found objects that normally reside hidden behind other objects promoted to the front of some of my websites. This actually effects the full flash version. NB. I have submitted a couple of tickets thinking this was an isolated issue but the more sites I look at the more this is occurring across them so thought I would raise it here.

I selected multiple items in the right hand bar of this page http://www.edistancelearning.co.uk/... and then selected the copy function. I then pasted them into the test page you created, as you will see they have pasted all together on top of each other. Pre release when I performed this function it would copy and paste each item in the exact location on the new page as it was on the old page.

Neil: Hi, by concerns were you referring to 'overall uptime / lag issues'? If so what specifically did you mean by Uptime?

With regards copy and paste, I've checked your site and create a blank hidden page at the end of your menu (when logged in). I've highlighted one of your text boxes with the list of courses, gone to the Toolbar and used Copy. I've then gone to the hidden page and used the Paste button to drop the copied box in with formatting. Can you try this also for me and let me know if that works for you. And how do you normally copy and paste text? So we can check to see if behaviour has changed.

Rebecca: Sorry to hear of your problems logging in. Any chance you can give us some clues to your website address so we can locate your account. We can then do an internal reset for you and confirm by email.

Good to hear this. A heavily layered site never seems to run smoothly the first time it's viewed. Some timed layers pop up briefly before the whole page loads and then depending on broadband speed, your timings become out of sync, ( I don't understand why this happens) and it all becomes a bit amateurish and frustrating.
It's my only real gripe at the moment. You've given people the option to build layered sites, but the internet can't seem to cope with it at the moment, or it needs fine tuning your end.

@Neil - yes there have been a few loading issues since the release which we're bedding down. We've introduced a new caching layer which will ultimately increase the speed of site loads, but it's had a few teething problems causing things ironically to run more slowly. Part of our main goal this year is to improve the load performance of all sites through further optimisation and caching. But the issues in the last couple of days should be resolved soon.

@K - the no background option in in the 'design' 'background' section where there is a new checkbox that says 'no background'. You can turn it off there. The shapes are located in the side bar of the new toolbar under the insert menu, or in the file manager in the 'shapes' folder.

Fantastic product when it works but I have been concerned about the uptime / lag even before this release. I have been with sitemaker for about 5 years and have a moonfruit and webeden account - recently I have being thinking about moving as we have been losing online orders due to speed and loading issues. This has got worst since yesterdays update, I love your product when it works but I cannot afford to lose business.

We get orders everyday through our website and I get feedback at least a few times a week from customers who perfer to call and place their order due to site issues.

Can you please give assurances that you can rectify not just the recent update issues but your overall uptime / lag issues, which must be one of the lowest in your field.

I do also have a problem with the new release in that I cannot copy content from one page and then paste it exactly as it was copied on to another page. The editor just pastes in one big clump...

sorry for the moan but as I said I really do like your software and we have traded successfully for years.

The contents on my homepage due to the so-called "ghost content" have been deleted in an attempt to remove the duplicate content after the release yesterday. I have posted on the forum regarding this but are yet to see a response to that effect. My question really is this: Is there any chance that the original content on my homepage prior to the release will be recoverable after deletion in an attempt to remove the duplicate content following the release?

I would be grateful if Support can atleast let me know one way or another! Having said that, I must say that the current stability issues aside, the new release looks exciting! The HTML and the new Shapes are a massive addition to an already great product (Moonfruit SiteMaker)

Correction - I can't add or edit pages from the "organize" tab. I am able to edit and view my pages from the drop down pages list. In the "organize pages" window I am able to add new pages but this can only be viewed or edited using the drop down list as previously mentioned.

Phew!. Panic over. I can be a bit of a drama queen.
I've noticed that using a shape to create a link to another page doesn't seem to be working, but works fine when I used one of my own images as a link. That might need looking at. Apart from that,everything seems ok.

Hi Hyperion, sorry about your frustration. We had hoped to get the blog out in this release, but in our last update pre Xmas we flagged that we would be doing a produce release before the blog which lays some of the foundations and the mobile optimised HTML, which is a significantly large piece of work. However, I appreciate this doesn't make it feel any better about the blog. I take the point about releasing some more information about how it will work and I'll speak to the team about what we can do in this area.

As I said in the article, 2010 was a big investment year for us but also a frustrating year as we delivered less to you than we had hoped. 2011 is the year of the releases and with this one out, we can get back to the next one. Many thanks,

Seriously? Just brush aside BLOG people like that? Why did you even state it's going to be covered in the next update? I think a bunch of us have been quite patient and understanding...but this is getting a bit too much.. I didn't pay MF to sit around and wait to be able to work on my site... which is BLOG driven.

I'm not asking for a Blog release, just a preview so I know how to design and layout my site for when it's time to roll out and judging by past comments this is what many others are asking as well.

I don't mean to sound heated but we were told one thing and now mislead to another.
I know it's hard work and you guys are doing all you can... but we have sites and businesses to run here. That's WHY we choose you guys in the first place because we believe in your product... so if you can't roll out the Blog function, fine... but don't tell us you're going to this update...and not deliver... so the very least, I hope you can at least present us with a screenshot of how you INTEND for it to look and work, so that we can concept, brainstorm and build around that foundation. THANK YOU.

We've pushed out a bug fix that should correct the content duplication issue and the Snippet Widget floating between pages.

You may need to close your browser and reload your site but please do give this a try and let us know how you get on. We are aware of some speed issues so we are also working on that as I write.

Thanks for the info. We're working on this bug at present. There appears to be work-around with the duplicated content and that is to use the "Revert to last saved" option (under Edit) on the toolbar for that page. We are trying to resolve this as quickly as possible as we know it is effecting quite a few people.

Kr8ve1, go to Insert, then on the side panel you will see the heading Shapes. That's what you need to add to your page.

Hi,

I also am seeing problems.

Like someone above mentioned, some items are duplicated in the editor. But when I view my site, the duplicated item I delete has removed both copies of the item, not just the duplicate.

Also, HTML-based add-ons will stay on screen even when switching to pages they haven't been placed on. I don't know if this is just a temporary flaw / is only showing up for me, but an example would be the twitter stream and music player on http://rofans.moonfruit.com/drunktx... sticking if you hit "Forum" in the page's menu.

My finished website, http://blueberrykissme.com, has yet to show problems, but I have not looked into the editor yet.

@ Joe thanks it worked a treat. I right clicked on image but it would not let me copy link or open link, but i found the source in properties instead.

I have one more problem, though it might be just me. When i try make the new shapes smaller they miss shape, like for instance when i made the rounded square smaller i.e 40x40 it looks more like a circle, unlike the old shape could be resized big or small and it would not mishape??? But apart from that the new shapes are looking good.

my site is Iplinth.com.
The front page is a temporary closed for maintenance page, to stop anyone viewing it. The site begins after that if you can access it.
I don't even know where to begin to tell you what the problems are.
I'm using google chrome. It's only when I was updating after the new software that my site messed up.
Please look at my site and if the pages are not perfect, you'll know what the problems are. The sound is being played twice on pages, there's layers missing. It's a mess.

If you can revert it back to yesterday, that would be great!

Thank you for your work on the new release. I just checked out my site on my iPhone and it has potential. I just wish the headers on my page were in the correct place, that I could control which images come through and that I can adjust the text as it's clumping together.

@shiv - thanks for your comments. Is your major complaint that you can't link find the path direct to an image via the HTML?

The images are still there in the HTML and if you right click on the image and do 'copy image link' or 'open link a new tab/window' you'll see that path. For galleries and other pop-ups this still links directly to the original image. This now behaves more like a normal webpage, e.g. images on the page don't have by default links on them to their source. We hadn't realised people were using it this way, but the right click options should allow you to get to the image source quickly. I hope that helps!

Hi there could somebody at moonfruit please please help.

The problem i have got is with the html version. With the old version i could view my site in html, once i was in the html version i could then click on any random image and it would take me to the url where the image is stored, which i found very useful for working on my website.

With the new version, when i try to click on a image it will not take me no where. I am wondering if it is because of the upgrade you have performed or that it no longer exists??

If it is because of the upgrade, then when will it be before it works again? If it no longer exists then what would the solution to my problem be?

I really really love moonfruit and have spent alot of time learning how to use it, that was one of the reasons i became a paying customer, and i do believe that one day moonfruit will be the best WYSIWYG in the world (if not already) .

So please moonfruit help solve my problem so that i can officially launch my website, as i have spent hundreds of hours building it and as you have said yourselves that we should not go live until our websites are totally complete, not only that i would like to show the wordpress world just how good us moonfruit website designers really are!!

But if we lose certain functions everytime you do a upgrade, then sure to god that is counter productive learning new skills only to see them wasted?

I am not having a go at moonfruit but come on guys you were one of the first, slowly but surely the likes of wix, weebly, create, webeden, coffecup, xara, edit live, wysiwygwebbuilder, website do it, gbbo, intuit, quick biz sites, base kit and god knows how many others they are, are going to catch up or either take over and before anyone says but moonfruit is the cheapest, it isn't because most of them offer the same kind of packages, what makes moonfruit the best is because they are the godfathers of WYSIWYG! Lets hope they do not turn in to the grandfathers of WYSIWYG.

I think it is time moonfruit started catering for customers who want to show off thier creative talent and not just for customers with white vans and small businesses who are willing to throw any old wesite up!

In terms of branding you would think that moonfruit would like to see crisp clean websites representing there brand. No disrespect to other moonfruit customers websites but i do think us as a moonfruit community need to step up our game before moonfruit is seen as just another company offering drag and drop websites like weebly or wix or even google (my ten year old can even use it).

Moonfruit are the best and i want to see them stay there because i would hate to leave for another company (which i won't do)

In terms of instability we're monitoring things to make sure it is stable. We had a couple of blips around 1pm GMT when we made a couple of patches but not a lot since then. Overall I am quite impressed with the new mobile/html version – well done to Joe & the MF team!

The HTML/mobile version appears to interpret the positions of some of the important elements of my sites fairly well on the whole although one or two of my sites are still quite jumbled. This is certainly an improvement and I am happy to say better than I was expecting. I very much like much improved menu too.

The major issues I have spotted so far are:

- Spacing is not always reflected in HTML version. IE. If there is a space a text box EG. between paragraphs, this is not always reflected in the HTML. Fixing this would smarten things up enormously.

- Bullet points do not work and lead to spacing issues. IE. Bullets do not show in the HTML (this would be very useful due to its text based nature) and when I insert bullets the spacing disappears between bullets and the preceding paragraph.

- MF has become unstable? IE. My sites will intermittently time out and then come back again. I don’t think this is just me look at a previous comment here. I hope this will settle down soon or else there will be major trouble ahead obviously.

I am looking forward to the dedicated article you mention as I hope this will provide further insight and dish out some of the rules to follow (much like the SEO rules) about where to place elements to get certain results in the HTML and mobile versions.

Hyperion and Justin, once we get our first release out of the way - which is imminent - then we'll focus on the blog and give you an update. But first things first.

Kr8ve1. This release will focus on the mobile version - though it will be first iteration of how we present sites to hand held and mobile devices - and it will take into consideration 'pad' devices.

Hanna, eCommerce will be most likely be towards the back end of the year. It will certainly not be released in the first half of 2011. But you certainly do not have to rely on PayPal. By inserting the HTML Snippet widget onto pages on your site you can make use of Google Checkout, Amazon Storefront and Roman Cart by inserting their snippets into our widget and creating a store front with many many options.

It's a nightmare to be reliant soley on paypal and I'd love to integrate roman cart or some more sophisticated / reliable payment software into my site. The Mobile HTML is going into final testing next week. So once it passes testing we will go to release - so hopefully the week after next for that (and shapes) to go live.

We naturally want to give ourselves a few weeks post that release to see if any bugs appear and give ourselves time to fix those quickly. At the same time as we monitor the success and feedback of the first release, the blog will be going into final testing. Once we are satisfied it's fit for release we will then we will go live with the blog.

iPhones will get the mobile optimised version which is a single column HTML version. Whether this is perfect or not will be a matter for discussion as we have to 'interpret' the content on your site to work out what is most important. In our tests this works out pretty well, but there'll certainly be further improvements to come.

For Android users they will get the same HTML version as the iPhone by default, but they'll be able to upgrade to viewing the full Flash version if they support the Flash Player.

I'm guessing you have Firefox 3.6. There is a bug we've found and it is currently being worked on with a released fixed due out very soon.

You could try another browser, IE, or downgrade Firefox (remove and re-install 3.5) until we have the bug fixed.

I am having a problem with the html snippet - I created a paypal add to cart button in paypal so I could utilize their options of drop down menus, and form input text boxes, etc..and works fine...the only problem - which is kind of a big one is that the "continue shopping" button in the paypal shopping cart is reading the html snippet as its own page and thus when clicked takes you back to a page with only the "Add to Cart" button. It doesn't take you back to the moonfruit website page in which you had come from...is there a way to fix this?

Hi Faddy,

At present that isn't possible. You can at present only copy whole sites. It also sounds like you are trying to copy the template for one site and insert that template as one page into another. A template is global for a site. That is menu, background, layout is set for an entire site.

Hello,
I have been using the html snippet (beta) prior to the new release and managed to embed a few swf files through coding that reads the file from my google site.

Since the new release the embedded swf file does not seem to work anymore and instead shows a white box. The funny thing is that when i sign in my google site, then the swf file will show in moonfruit! This definately did not happen before the release and now i cannot show any swf files. Do you have any idea why this is happening?

Noticed another strange bug with the beta release. In the page settings side bar, when you have a page that's hidden from the menu, but you still want it in your sitemap, you click and "Include this page in my Site Map" gets a tick. Move away from the page, and back again, and the tick's disappeared, although if you check this setting in the old advanced view it still shows that you've elected to include the page. This makes it impossible to know from the beta view if the page is or isn't included!

When the user doesn't have Flash 10, there is a link to download it at the bottom of the page where the content has been repositioned. Penetration is roughly 88% at the moment and rising 5% ish per month, so it shouldn't be too long before this is at the 98% level like most Flash. I hope that helps,

Hey, with the html widget becoming one of the best parts of the new release and the only way to do any e-commerce, is there any way of mandating only computers with flash 10 from getting to the website, maybe having a separate landing page for those who don't have it, or linking them directly to adobe for the download? I really can't run my business reliably through moonfruit without a feature like this, at least until you guys get the new ecommerce updates up. Thanks :)

I cant find the Copy/Transfer site buttons in my Admin section? I've looked in all the subpages to see if it's hidden anywhere but cant see it.

I normally use firefox, but just out of curiousity I went on Internet Explorer version 8, and noticed to my dismay that the html widgets appeared off page, just like they used to do on firefox before it was fixed.
I don't know if its just my pc which has not been set up correctly for V8 or whether its a universal problem. Can you test it for me Joe.

Yes thats right - the links tab in the editor. When you go to link to a page the drop down menu is very small (shows 4 pages at a view). Have around 300 pages on my site and many pages have to link to pages old or new.
Only a minor moan but what you've done with the other drop downs is so much clearer.

Hi Joe

I’m still getting used to the new interface, not sure if I prefer it yet ‘old dog, new tricks’ etc. I’ve two points for you:

a) Don’t know if this is just me but when I use the zoom to see the whole of a long page and then try to move things about and resize objects they look at OK in zoom but when I return to 100% the objects are not where I had put them when zoomed out. Zoom would be great for re-organising long pages however the feature fairly useless for this purpose so far I have found.

b) A point of SEO. The ‘Site Information’ panel lets you add a ‘Site name’ and ‘Site description’ for the whole site. This is fine I guess if you don’t want to put page specific metadata into every page. The problem is that ‘Site Information’ gets indexed by the search engines against the home page [ eg. www.website.com ]. This means that the meta data that one enters onto a home page only gets indexed against the address with /home [eg. www.website.com/home/123456789 ]. This would be manageable however the ‘Site name’ only allows 50 characters. As the home page [ www.website.com ] is the one that always appears highest in the search engines it means this is very limiting trying to get a name and key-phrases into this all important space. Hope that makes sense – essentially if you could either increase the characters allowed for a ‘site name’ or just use the meta data from the home page as ‘site information’ this would solve this issue.

So glad the html widget is now more bullet proof – top work.

One minor gripe - wish you'd done something similar to the editor to make its menu drop downs bigger. With a multi page site lninking pages can be really time consuming.

It would be good to understand what you don't like about it. The functions that are available on the advanced bar should be available on the new toolbar in the same or fewer number of clicks. It also adds additional functionality that is not available in the advanced toolbar, e.g. zoom, off page editor/objects, etc.

" make widget" or ' widgetmaker" button: the admin can design a minisite or widget using all the function in control panel as a widgetmaker, after the design is finished click in the "make widget button" and set up your gigya account integration. the new widget can be saved and used in other sites with the share button.

On the FF missing cursor, you probably already knew this, but when you're editing things like the metatags box in the left-hand margin the cursor works normally. It's only when editing boxes on the actual site page that it disappears!

Hi Dani,

The white flash is caused by the background of your site being white. On the homepage you load a full screen image over the top of it (house image) which covers it up. But sometimes things load in different orders so you sometimes see the background 'flash' before the image covers it.

I see that you use the white background on your other pages as you have black text, so you can't change the colour.

However, there is a way round this. If you set your background to black (like the HTML colour) in the 'design' 'background' section this will stop the flash as it won't be there. You will then need to go into your page master (design, page master) and insert a white square onto your page and resize it to cover the whole site.

This way on any normal page where you need to show black text on white, the page master will be white, and on any page where you don't want to show the white you can set the page to 'hide page master' (in page settings).

I don't believe anything has changed in the release that would have affected all this, so it is likely that this has always happened. I hope that helps,

I absolutely LOVE this new interface - it's so much more user-friendly and I can see things so much better. The zoom is great, the left hand side information is great - the individual page length is brilliant! Just what I needed!

One thing: please please please... are you working on something to help me sell mp3 audio zip files and downloads online securely (with paypal as the ecommerce aspect still)?

It's fine for me to sell CDs, but so many people want downloads now, I'm losing custom as long as I can't offer this to them.. Any plans?

1, the @ symbol wont work when filling out email address in moonfruit comment forms

I was updating the website whilst in Crete (very nice) and the internet connection kept dropping - the Welcome page seemed to blank out at this time. The work I was doing was loading pictures onto a slide show (Portraits / Party Portraits)

Should I be backing the site up somehow in case this kind of thing happens again?

I was really desperate to get it back again, as the pics I loaded were about to be viewed by a bunch of parents - so I am REALLY grateful for your help.

How often to we ask for help from a service provider and actually get it? Not only did you come to my rescue, you were amazingly prompt and I'm very grateful to you. We can really only measure customer service when something goes wrong - and Moonfruit has come up trumps!

Hi Dan,

Yes google have stopped supporting the API we were using for the maps. We may need to redevelop the widget to fix this so it won't be quick.

But in the meantime you can use the HTML widget and get your link code from maps.google.com. Do your search, then get the HTML from the 'link' option in the top right of the screen on google.

Hi Jason,

This alert is caused when the Javascript has been cached by your browser and is out of sync with the application files. If you clear your cache it should work again.

Re the logging in issue, it sounds like you're logging in as a member of your site, not the site leader, which is the only reason the top bar would not load (member edit mode does not show the topbar). If you can submit a support ticket we can investigate further. Thanks,

Having lots of problems with Firefox (latest release) and new MF build. Lots of "caching problems" alerts from FF and when I log in to my site it either doesn't recognise my login deets or logs me in but to old edit enviroment without top toolbar.

I looked in pay pal options for creating buttons but didn't find any options to set up opening in new window or same window. Like I said the code works fine in my other non moonfruit sites, new window opens with pay pal logg in page and price.

Hi Max,

It looks like the button once clicked is trying to load the page into the frame on your moonfruit site. Are there any settings when generating the button about opening in the same window or new window? You may want to try experimenting with that and it may work.

Here we are again. HTML snippet is not beta anymore but after pasting my pay pal button it still doesn't work. I pasted my paypal button on a different web site that I have with webs.com and it works just fine. Moonfruit displays the button but once you click on it it gives you an error. Button is on the registration page of my above displayed site. Aside from that I can't logg out of the editor , I click logg out but nothing happens. I just started exploring the new tool bar hopping it will improve the moonfruit but so far not too impressed.

Wow and wow! I know it's been said but "Copy a site" is sooo quick and simple. I imagine you'll already be looking into more server power and B/W to handle the extra traffic/interest this will no doubt generate! A strange but trivial thing - when I click on "View my site", it re-loads but still in edit mode. I have to click it again and then it re-loads in view mode. I though I was imagining it, but I've tested it and it's consistently like this!

Hi Steve,

We're still investigating the FF cursor issue as we're not sure what is causing it. Seems to be only FF on PC and may be something to do with their updates. We'll let you know when we know more.

Re the edit boxes, I guess it partly depends on how big your screen is. You can also use the zoom out feature if you want to create more space to move the panels, though it will make the site smaller.

Any idea when the FF cursor bug will be fixed? Sorry to concentrate on the thing that isn't working when so much good stuff is (!) but I've had to change back to the advanced menu view for the moment as editing dialog boxes with no idea where the cursor is is no fun at all! I've also noted that although things like the edit dialog box can now float outside the page margins, they can't float over the whole screen which makes this not as useful an innovation as it might have been.

Yes that does make sense when thinking about it, as some people would want more than one open at a time on the pages panel and each of the accordian menus is probably the same component with a different instance name, so i understand that to get it working would be difficult.

And i do agree with you with the scroll bar, that would not be the best solution and im glad you guys chose to ditch it :).

Im sure the Dev team will come up with something as they always seem to come up with some really good little widgets and additions to the software.

Hi Scott,

Yes this is something we've been thinking about. The problem with only one open is that in some cases you may want to see more than one at once (e.g. pages panel). It's very hard to intelligently close some but not all panels on clicks as we'd need to know which ones are more 'important', and know the screen resolution and browser size of the editor so know the 'visible' space.

We could (and have tried) a scroll bar on the left hand menu, but it looks very ugly. So for the moment we've left it so that the user can decide which ones are open and which ones are shut and manage this themselves.

If we can think of a clever solution we'll do it. Does that make sense?

Great release today, the new interface is a plus. Just an idea for the dev team to look at:

The side accordian menus, currently you can open all of them at once and on certain tabs (insert) they do go off screen, maybe you can code it that only one can open at a time, sure this is only a little thing, but it would be alot better for developers and users like my self.

Hi Ian,

Thanks :-). You can't add the content outside the margins, just see it there in edit mode if you want to use the whole workspace. If you want to make your site wider/longer you can do so in the 'design' section with 'site size'. I hope that helps,

Nothing we've released will have affected google rankings or listings. Our changes went live 10am BST (today), so anything happening before that will not have been caused by the release.

Also no part of the release will have affected the way google sees or treats the sites.

And your site semi-permanent-make-up is still listed by google. Type site:www.semi-permanent-make-up.co.uk into google and you'll see the 414 pages it has listed.

Moonfruit just gets better, I was just reading through your amazing updates and I was very excited, but as I was reading my partner gave me some horrific news...

Dozens of my webstes have been Slapped off the face of Google, overnight.

Has this got anything to do with the Moonfruit update?

I have been working hard to fall in line with Google's Guidelines lately and I don't know if it's just a coincidence with your release or not, all of my websites that have been slapped are all linked to my main directory http://www.semi-permanent-make-up.c... which links back to all the sites.

its usually better getting the links manually I find, as its not the amount of links its the quality, a few good links from sites with related content that have a good Page Rank or are already a well established site are far better than 100's of meaningless links, web seo's generally only use masses of weak links to cover their tracks, to make it more difficult for competitors to analyse the site. One site we analysed had 49,000 back links, most of them useless, but as you can imagine it made it very difficult to pick out the good ones!

PayPal now has a new trick, they keep a "rolling balance" of funds you get from sales, basically they take 8% of every sale you do and hold it for 90 days to help prevent charge backs, this will cripple some smaller sellers and companies working with tiny margins, I have worked for a company who works on 12% margins how can they expect people to survive in todays climate, I can see what they are trying to do but I think 90 days is quite excessive!?

This widget does sound like an innovative solution to the problems of Flash.

The thing I totally want and have expressed is an ability to 100% escape Paypal and use Google Checkout or other Payment solutions that are viable for me but also my Art buyers.

I hope that within the summer even if new ecommerce solutions are way off that this viable Widget will allow me to get away from the horror of having your Paypal funds frozen seemingly at will.

On my www.testersite.moonfruit.com, I have put on a live streaming webcam.
To be able to do this is a big part of a lot of work I am going to be doing
in the near future with a range of clients. I was delighted to see that the
live feed embedded fine into the page and worked.... but...... when I navigate
away from the page I have embedded it on, it remains in sight on the new page.
I know this is a beta version, but is there anything I can do to prevent this?
Why would it embed and they remain in sight even on different pages? PLEASE can anyone help! If I can't get this to work, I am going to need to find another web building package as it is fundamental in the work I am about to start. Such a shame as I LOVE Moonfruit! Any help gratefully received.

I use JAlbum to display my photos to clients, and I would love to embed this within my website, rather than providing a link. When I tried it (as the album provides an embed code) I just got one photo up and when you clicked on it, it was just a link... it would not run within the site. I also tried a selection of the downloadable widgets, like google weather etc, but couldn't get any of them to work. I did manage to get a google map on one page. I think it's a great idea and would be really excellent for my sites, especially the school site I run (www.waterortonprimary.co.uk)

When will Moonfruit release a wiget with the ability to add RSS to our own News pages, so others could subscbribe to our own feeds and add them to their sites, or bookmark them, etc.

Being able to transmit any box text to via outward bound RRS News Feed would be great, the option of keeping those interested in updates, without the need for them to visit the main site everytime, etc.

I wanted to use the html widget to incorporate paypal's website payments pro button code, which allows users to pay by credit card without having to sign up for a paypal account.

When I pasted the generated button code into the widget, it displays the paypal button, but when clicked takes me to a paypal page that says "Sorry — your last action could not be completed."

Is this a mis-function of the widget, or am I doing something wrong on the paypal side of things?

Ran a couple of experiments regarding compatibility with Firefox.

The widget doesn't work in Minefield 3.6
The widget however does work in 3.0.10 when you change your user agent to IE7/NT6.

Hiya, I'm using the widget with some code for the analytics programme Woopra, it sort of works although it's difficult to see the specific pages accessed by visitors since it only displays /cgi-bin/snippet.cgi for all the pages where I'm using the html widget but I'm hoping with the advent of the beta version its functionality should be improved. I use it to place a badge on my site which links to my royalty free portfolio of illustrations-
and can now get referral fees from this link when somebody signs up and buys from the site.

I have recently built, and still in the process of finishing, an online portfolio for my recent work (however primitive), using Moonfruit and I found the HTML snippet quite useful. I am currently using the snippet to display the twitter flash html app to allow my updates to be shown on my site. Using Internet Explorer I have found no problems displaying the twitter app on my homepage, but when viewing the site with Firefox it only displays the app on the bottom of the screen, = (. I wanted to see if I could create a table using the HTML widget so exported one from excel. I'm using IE6, Flash 10 and several browser.
I have found that IE6 shows nothing, both Firefox and Opera display the table but unfortunately below the boundary of the web page. Can anyone suggest what I can llok for in the HTML code.

I have used this Widget to make my Paypal functions more versatile.
so i created a button in Paypal that has a stock counter so after i have run out of a specific item Paypal states that it is not for sale making it a less manual process for me.

It also allows for drop down's so you can pick certain sizes of a product.

I think this is one of the best things to happen to Sitemaker as it opens the door to almost anything.

Hi Ian,

This mostly depends on 2 things. Firstly the penetration rate of Flash Player 10, and secondly, Firefox fixing a bug in the way the browser works with wmode (required for HTML layering). It is fixed in FF 3.2 alpha, but that won't go on general release for some time.

So unfortunately it's out of our control, but we are looking to see if there are any clever tricks we can employ to work around some of these issues. We'll let you know if we find something acceptable. Thanks,

I managed to use the HTML widget to put in a bannerzest slideshow. Just put the files on a remote server and paste the code (the non java version) in the widget ....and done.
tested both in safari 3.0/4.0 and firefox on a mac.

@Answerish - it's not that simple. French keyboards, for example, have azerty rather than qwerty on the top line. Each time you press the key labelled 'a', you get a 'q'.

@Marcus911 - The page settings/View HTML version (or View->HTML version in the advanced toolbar) should show the HTML version of your site, along with a button at the top right to return to the flash view. If this is not working for you, please let us know what browser you are using. You can alternatively disable the flash plugin in your browser if you want to see the HTML version.

Make a keyListener object in the root level(or anywhere you need it) of ur SWF and onKeyDown check if SHIFT is pressed and toggle a variable to true. on KeyUp, toggle it back to false. And everytime u want to do a Key.isDown (Key.SHIFT), check ur variable instead...and give us HTML Widget

I think your website maker is fantastic. From being a complete novice, I have made several sites now - including an interactive children's site called www.primaryschoolpoems.com I am now a writer ( previously a consultant psychiatrist) and have a book coming out in a few weeks. I use the website to advertise and sell my poetry books for children and I read poems using your audio facility.I want to be able to put small videos of me reading the poems etc( which I think is possible) and also e-books eventually- which I do not know as yet if that will be possible- when I have made the e-books. There is no cost to upgrading to the Flash 10 player. Flash development software costs money, but not the player. You can get it free at http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Already 55% of browsers have FP10, and it grew by 8% last month, so it is getting out there.

Just wondering whether this is actually worth using at the moment. To use this widget, you have to have installed Flash Player 10 which is available at a price!

Also by converting stuff like this, your going to alienate users of Flash Player 9 who will not bother to pay for the upgrade.

I think its great Moonfruit are thinking out of the box on this, but at what price. At the end of the day its not what looks good on your screen, but what looks good and works on your visitors screen thats more important.

Still think its a step in the right direction though!

Yes, at the moment FF can't render the widget in place over your Flash site, so we display it as a broken link with a hyperlink down to the bottom of the page where the widget is rendered in the HTML. Yes you have to experiment with the different embed codes to see which works. Often those HTML tags that load external JS files do not work, so if you have a choice of different embed codes from the provider, it's worth trying them out to see which one(s) work.

We're not likely to get to full HTML editing, so hold it right there!! But we thought this might be a way of increasing the general compatibility of SiteMaker sites (when the browser bugs are resolved).

This is quite a revolution – congrats to the mischievous development team. With the ability to create your own widgets as well as using the vast array already out there, it makes this development very significant for Moonfruit.

It’s worth pointing out that you do need to embed the Flash Version of the code. I started off using Javascript for my first few attempts and wondered why it was not working – doh.

Loving moonfruit, whenever i think that your site design is limiting my business potential you also come with new features to change my mind, it means i always feel comfortable in knowing things are just gona keep getting better with you.

The user features will be amazing, but i still want to see a few basic covered like a new music player with random and loop features, but i trust that is also in the pipline.

I hope you continue to be as productive and succesful in 2009

Moonfruit events wishlist -
I think Moonfruit should come up with some events to host like best of Moonfruit design or even perhaps the best forum (ofcourse you should have gold, bronze and silver awards), oh and it does not mean dishing out money just some site owners would be proud of displaying awards on their sites.

I can't wait for the new e-commerce features.

Bryan, in the short-term, we won't be able to offer this sort of service. We can see how it could be useful, especially to a photographer. We have a long list of features on our 'wishlist' that have been requested and that we'd like to introduce however our development schedule is already booked up till the end of the year. That said, we are always keen to hear of new ideas and if one really excites us then we'll have a closer look. If you haven't already drop a note into the Wishlist section on the forum as we do refer to this for new ideas and suggested improvements.

Hi Guys.

As a photographer I need to be able to provide instant galleries created in Adobe Lightroom etc via an ftp server. Are there plans for moonfruit to provide this feature in the near future, or do I need to keep a totally separate website with another provider just for this service. I would much rather build on my existing sites with Moonfruit :)

Hi Edney,

You have 2 choices:

1. You can renew with your current provider and then transfer in at a later date once we have provided this feature - due out in the next 1-2 weeks. Normally, most providers require at least 30 days clear notice of transfer before your expiry date - so you may have been refused a transfer so close to expiry.

2. Or, if permitted you can transfer to Gandi (www.gandi.net) - our domain name partner. We've integrated their system into our software.

I'd suggest checking with your current provider to find out notice period, upgrade if necessary and then look at transfer shortly. If you are considering letting it lapse to buy it through Gandi, I would think again. It can take up to 90 days for the whole process to complete and you would lose access to your domain name for perhaps 30 - 60 days. This is just the way the domain system works.

So if you value your domain name, and you do need to give advanced warning of transfer, renew it with your current provider and then transfer at your leisure. We should have this feature available very shortly.

The last release included an upload feature for the form. You just need to add the option when editing the form.

As far as shopping cart and seller tools are concerned, we are currently working on these, amongst many other things, so we hope to have something out late summer. probably September.

Hi Jeff, re transfer, you will be able to, but not yet. We're working on that functionality but it won't be ready until the next release (next month sometime).

As for the file upload on the forms (I presume that's what you mean), you can set this using the 'upload setup' button on the setup tab in the editor.

Couple of things

Have you moonfruiters seen the news about google being able to read SWF files and so on? I know we escaped this because of the design moonfruit has always had but will this affect the site design and rankings at all?

Hi Tom,
The Pop3 settings (e.g. for Outlook) are:
* Incoming server (POP or POP3): pop.yourdomain.tld
* Outgoing server (SMTP): smtp.yourdomain.tld

So in your case you would use pop.timmyplanet.com (incoming) and smtp.timmyplanet.com (outgoing).

Hi Chris, we just put a fix out for this, which also affected our forum from displaying for some browsers. Your site now appears under your domain name.

Could we recommend that you set up your domain (A-record) to 'point' to our web servers - this you can do through your domain name provider. This will ensure that your website does get properly spidered by the search engines. Masked forwarding can cause issues with SEO which is why we recommend 'pointing'. Details are available in the FAQ.
