Hiya,
Can someone help me? I really need help with how to change the color of my text once the mouse moves over it. The HTML code I found was <H1 onmouseover="this.style.color='red';"

Ive tried adding this to the HTML snippet but then its not the size or the font I want as I dont know the other html codes to change the size/font..oh someone HELP!

Hi Lloyd,

I'm guessing you have Firefox 3.6. There is a bug we've found and it is currently being worked on with a released fixed due out very soon.

You could try another browser, IE, or downgrade Firefox (remove and re-install 3.5) until we have the bug fixed.

the site above i am having a few issues with, on the calendar page i have tried to use a google widget. The issue is i just get a box with a question mark, and then everything appears off the page at the bottom. I am using firefox, and have the latest flash player, so cant seem to work out the problem,

I am having a problem with the html snippet - I created a paypal add to cart button in paypal so I could utilize their options of drop down menus, and form input text boxes, etc..and works fine...the only problem - which is kind of a big one is that the "continue shopping" button in the paypal shopping cart is reading the html snippet as its own page and thus when clicked takes you back to a page with only the "Add to Cart" button. It doesn't take you back to the moonfruit website page in which you had come from...is there a way to fix this?

Hi Faddy,

At present that isn't possible. You can at present only copy whole sites. It also sounds like you are trying to copy the template for one site and insert that template as one page into another. A template is global for a site. That is menu, background, layout is set for an entire site.

Hello,
I have been using the html snippet (beta) prior to the new release and managed to embed a few swf files through coding that reads the file from my google site.

Since the new release the embedded swf file does not seem to work anymore and instead shows a white box. The funny thing is that when i sign in my google site, then the swf file will show in moonfruit! This definately did not happen before the release and now i cannot show any swf files. Do you have any idea why this is happening?

can someone tell me if with this new release and the ability now to copy whole sites, is it possible to copy only a single page from one site and transfer it to another site.

I would like to copy the layout, shapes, buttons etc from a page on one site and place them on a page in another site, can this be done??

Noticed another strange bug with the beta release. In the page settings side bar, when you have a page that's hidden from the menu, but you still want it in your sitemap, you click and "Include this page in my Site Map" gets a tick. Move away from the page, and back again, and the tick's disappeared, although if you check this setting in the old advanced view it still shows that you've elected to include the page. This makes it impossible to know from the beta view if the page is or isn't included!

Hi Dan,

When the user doesn't have Flash 10, there is a link to download it at the bottom of the page where the content has been repositioned. Penetration is roughly 88% at the moment and rising 5% ish per month, so it shouldn't be too long before this is at the 98% level like most Flash. I hope that helps,

Hey, with the html widget becoming one of the best parts of the new release and the only way to do any e-commerce, is there any way of mandating only computers with flash 10 from getting to the website, maybe having a separate landing page for those who don't have it, or linking them directly to adobe for the download? I really can't run my business reliably through moonfruit without a feature like this, at least until you guys get the new ecommerce updates up. Thanks :)

I installed the new toolbar (which is lovely) but need to maintain the site from a number of points which do not have Flash 10 installed. Is there a way of editing the site using the older toolbar on these systems? Once I've logged in it seems always to want to show me the new menu.

I cant find the Copy/Transfer site buttons in my Admin section? I've looked in all the subpages to see if it's hidden anywhere but cant see it.

Also while I'm here can I just ask if there are going to be any new calendars released soon? In the forum there a lot of topics about it as the current one is VERY limited but no responses..

Have to say Moonfruit is amazing. Im really enjoying playing about with it and its a lot more in-depth than I'd hoped before I bought the package.

I normally use firefox, but just out of curiousity I went on Internet Explorer version 8, and noticed to my dismay that the html widgets appeared off page, just like they used to do on firefox before it was fixed.
I don't know if its just my pc which has not been set up correctly for V8 or whether its a universal problem. Can you test it for me Joe.

Yes thats right - the links tab in the editor. When you go to link to a page the drop down menu is very small (shows 4 pages at a view). Have around 300 pages on my site and many pages have to link to pages old or new.
Only a minor moan but what you've done with the other drop downs is so much clearer.

Hi Joe

I’m still getting used to the new interface, not sure if I prefer it yet ‘old dog, new tricks’ etc. I’ve two points for you:

a) Don’t know if this is just me but when I use the zoom to see the whole of a long page and then try to move things about and resize objects they look at OK in zoom but when I return to 100% the objects are not where I had put them when zoomed out. Zoom would be great for re-organising long pages however the feature fairly useless for this purpose so far I have found.

b) A point of SEO. The ‘Site Information’ panel lets you add a ‘Site name’ and ‘Site description’ for the whole site. This is fine I guess if you don’t want to put page specific metadata into every page. The problem is that ‘Site Information’ gets indexed by the search engines against the home page [ eg. www.website.com ]. This means that the meta data that one enters onto a home page only gets indexed against the address with /home [eg. www.website.com/home/123456789 ]. This would be manageable however the ‘Site name’ only allows 50 characters. As the home page [ www.website.com ] is the one that always appears highest in the search engines it means this is very limiting trying to get a name and key-phrases into this all important space. Hope that makes sense – essentially if you could either increase the characters allowed for a ‘site name’ or just use the meta data from the home page as ‘site information’ this would solve this issue.

So glad the html widget is now more bullet proof – top work.

One minor gripe - wish you'd done something similar to the editor to make its menu drop downs bigger. With a multi page site lninking pages can be really time consuming.

It would be good to understand what you don't like about it. The functions that are available on the advanced bar should be available on the new toolbar in the same or fewer number of clicks. It also adds additional functionality that is not available in the advanced toolbar, e.g. zoom, off page editor/objects, etc.

Hi, moonfruit is the best wsb so far.. I have a cool idea... a new desig function : the
" make widget" or ' widgetmaker" button: the admin can design a minisite or widget using all the function in control panel as a widgetmaker, after the design is finished click in the "make widget button" and set up your gigya account integration. the new widget can be saved and used in other sites with the share button.

Hi, the comment form doesnt seem to resize shorter than 320 pixels vertically It is fine to make narrower (horizontally) but for some reason even when I change the height pixels to 200, it defaults to 320. Is this a bug?

On the FF missing cursor, you probably already knew this, but when you're editing things like the metatags box in the left-hand margin the cursor works normally. It's only when editing boxes on the actual site page that it disappears!

Hi Dani,

The white flash is caused by the background of your site being white. On the homepage you load a full screen image over the top of it (house image) which covers it up. But sometimes things load in different orders so you sometimes see the background 'flash' before the image covers it.

I see that you use the white background on your other pages as you have black text, so you can't change the colour.

However, there is a way round this. If you set your background to black (like the HTML colour) in the 'design' 'background' section this will stop the flash as it won't be there. You will then need to go into your page master (design, page master) and insert a white square onto your page and resize it to cover the whole site.

This way on any normal page where you need to show black text on white, the page master will be white, and on any page where you don't want to show the white you can set the page to 'hide page master' (in page settings).

I don't believe anything has changed in the release that would have affected all this, so it is likely that this has always happened. I hope that helps,

I absolutely LOVE this new interface - it's so much more user-friendly and I can see things so much better. The zoom is great, the left hand side information is great - the individual page length is brilliant! Just what I needed!

One thing: please please please... are you working on something to help me sell mp3 audio zip files and downloads online securely (with paypal as the ecommerce aspect still)?

It's fine for me to sell CDs, but so many people want downloads now, I'm losing custom as long as I can't offer this to them.. Any plans?

I'm also getting the problem mentioned by a user earlier where I get a white background before each page loads for a couple of seconds. I've also noticed it on another site powered by moonfruit.

Is there anyway of stopping this as it never happened before?

1, the @ symbol wont work when filling out email address in moonfruit comment forms
2, backspace and delete buttons dont work during editing of the comment forms

I was updating the website whilst in Crete (very nice) and the internet connection kept dropping - the Welcome page seemed to blank out at this time. The work I was doing was loading pictures onto a slide show (Portraits / Party Portraits)

Should I be backing the site up somehow in case this kind of thing happens again?

I was really desperate to get it back again, as the pics I loaded were about to be viewed by a bunch of parents - so I am REALLY grateful for your help.

How often to we ask for help from a service provider and actually get it? Not only did you come to my rescue, you were amazingly prompt and I'm very grateful to you. We can really only measure customer service when something goes wrong - and Moonfruit has come up trumps!

I've tried to look at sitemaker beta but I don't have Flash 10 at work and am unable to download it, now I have no access to any of my sites to edit as I can't change back to basic view.

Yes google have stopped supporting the API we were using for the maps. We may need to redevelop the widget to fix this so it won't be quick.

But in the meantime you can use the HTML widget and get your link code from maps.google.com. Do your search, then get the HTML from the 'link' option in the top right of the screen on google.

Hi Jason,

This alert is caused when the Javascript has been cached by your browser and is out of sync with the application files. If you clear your cache it should work again.

Re the logging in issue, it sounds like you're logging in as a member of your site, not the site leader, which is the only reason the top bar would not load (member edit mode does not show the topbar). If you can submit a support ticket we can investigate further. Thanks,

Having lots of problems with Firefox (latest release) and new MF build. Lots of "caching problems" alerts from FF and when I log in to my site it either doesn't recognise my login deets or logs me in but to old edit enviroment without top toolbar.

I looked in pay pal options for creating buttons but didn't find any options to set up opening in new window or same window. Like I said the code works fine in my other non moonfruit sites, new window opens with pay pal logg in page and price.

Hi Max,

It looks like the button once clicked is trying to load the page into the frame on your moonfruit site. Are there any settings when generating the button about opening in the same window or new window? You may want to try experimenting with that and it may work.

Re the logout issue, what browser/os are you using? If you can submit a support ticket we can grab some more data about your setup and see what the problem is. Thanks,

Here we are again. HTML snippet is not beta anymore but after pasting my pay pal button it still doesn't work. I pasted my paypal button on a different web site that I have with webs.com and it works just fine. Moonfruit displays the button but once you click on it it gives you an error. Button is on the registration page of my above displayed site. Aside from that I can't logg out of the editor , I click logg out but nothing happens. I just started exploring the new tool bar hopping it will improve the moonfruit but so far not too impressed.

Excellent release. You need to work on and release an update to creative processes like image effects ect in the next year pretty please. Some similar hosting sites are getting very creative with options and effects.

Ah, just thought of something - with more and more "multiple" or similar sites popping up, it would be useful to have the site address appear below the site name in the "Your sites" tab of the "your Account" sidebar section. Handy for those of us with multiple sites with the same (or similar) names.

Wow and wow! I know it's been said but "Copy a site" is sooo quick and simple. I imagine you'll already be looking into more server power and B/W to handle the extra traffic/interest this will no doubt generate! I haven't had time to fully investigate external JS calls, but if they work as well as the rest of the update, I know I'm going to be a happy camper!

A strange but trivial thing - when I click on "View my site", it re-loads but still in edit mode. I have to click it again and then it re-loads in view mode. I though I was imagining it, but I've tested it and it's consistently like this!

Hi Steve,

We're still investigating the FF cursor issue as we're not sure what is causing it. Seems to be only FF on PC and may be something to do with their updates. We'll let you know when we know more.

Re the edit boxes, I guess it partly depends on how big your screen is. You can also use the zoom out feature if you want to create more space to move the panels, though it will make the site smaller.

Any idea when the FF cursor bug will be fixed? Sorry to concentrate on the thing that isn't working when so much good stuff is (!) but I've had to change back to the advanced menu view for the moment as editing dialog boxes with no idea where the cursor is is no fun at all! I've also noted that although things like the edit dialog box can now float outside the page margins, they can't float over the whole screen which makes this not as useful an innovation as it might have been.

Yes that does make sense when thinking about it, as some people would want more than one open at a time on the pages panel and each of the accordian menus is probably the same component with a different instance name, so i understand that to get it working would be difficult.

And i do agree with you with the scroll bar, that would not be the best solution and im glad you guys chose to ditch it :).

Im sure the Dev team will come up with something as they always seem to come up with some really good little widgets and additions to the software.

Hi Scott,

Yes this is something we've been thinking about. The problem with only one open is that in some cases you may want to see more than one at once (e.g. pages panel). It's very hard to intelligently close some but not all panels on clicks as we'd need to know which ones are more 'important', and know the screen resolution and browser size of the editor so know the 'visible' space.

We could (and have tried) a scroll bar on the left hand menu, but it looks very ugly. So for the moment we've left it so that the user can decide which ones are open and which ones are shut and manage this themselves.

If we can think of a clever solution we'll do it. Does that make sense?

Great release today, the new interface is a plus. Just an idea for the dev team to look at:

The side accordian menus, currently you can open all of them at once and on certain tabs (insert) they do go off screen, maybe you can code it that only one can open at a time, sure this is only a little thing, but it would be alot better for developers and users like my self.

Hi Ian,

Thanks :-). You can't add the content outside the margins, just see it there in edit mode if you want to use the whole workspace. If you want to make your site wider/longer you can do so in the 'design' section with 'site size'. I hope that helps,

Hi Leonardo,

Nothing we've released will have affected google rankings or listings. Our changes went live 10am BST (today), so anything happening before that will not have been caused by the release.

Also no part of the release will have affected the way google sees or treats the sites.

And your site semi-permanent-make-up is still listed by google. Type site:www.semi-permanent-make-up.co.uk into google and you'll see the 414 pages it has listed.

Moonfruit just gets better, I was just reading through your amazing updates and I was very excited, but as I was reading my partner gave me some horrific news...

Dozens of my webstes have been Slapped off the face of Google, overnight.

Has this got anything to do with the Moonfruit update?

I have been working hard to fall in line with Google's Guidelines lately and I don't know if it's just a coincidence with your release or not, all of my websites that have been slapped are all linked to my main directory http://www.semi-permanent-make-up.c... which links back to all the sites.

Design is one of those things which can mean so many different things depending on the designer. For some it can be a way of unleashing and stimulating creative and innovative ideas, and for others it can be a chore. To some, design is the means by which an end result is accomplished, but to others good design is the primary goal.

I used to see design as the art of creating pretty things; however, as my knowledge of design evolved so did my perception of it. I will be the first to admit that design can lead to beautiful and stunning pieces of art but is that all it is useful for? Could it be that design encompasses a much broader horizon? Since design is such a large field it only follows that Design can be so many different things for you or I. It can be the spark plug for the next big idea. It could be the means by which we as humans present ourselves in clear and concise manners. Regardless of what design means for each of us individually I think that it is safe to assume that Design should mean something to individually.

For me design is the process of communicating in the way I know best, through aesthetic appeal. My website is composed os mostly images, as I wanted to take the service that the good guys here at moonfruit are offering and test its boundaries. My goal was to take the simplicity of art and design and translate it into a website. Through easy navigation, quality content and a minimalistic feel I wanted to demonstrate the knowledge and intellect of a college student while demonstrating the purity and simplicity of a playful child.

Regardless of how well I do in this contest, I have had fun. I'm sure their are plenty of deserving people with excellent websites who have already entered. My website is supposed to reflect me, my personality and my creativity (or lack thereof ;) and I am very pleased with how my site turned out. Even doubling as an excellent portfolio! This mac would mean a lot to me, especially as an aspiring graphic designer with adobe creative suite and only windows 2000 to run it on.

Hi, Moonfruit!

I'm a recent graduate and freelance graphic designer who is just getting started on my own business (I launched my website less than a month ago!) I have been building my portfolio through a series of self-imposed projects, so when I heard about your contest I was excited to create a new website as well as submit an entry to win an Apple laptop!

My website is based on a fictitious singer-songwriter I came up with for a poster design. I had been wanting to build a matching website, and as it turns out, Moonfruit was just the tool for it! I love the flexibility of the program, and found the "page master" to be especially useful.

I hope to be picked because I feel I made Moonfruit my own, it has an out of the box design that is not constrained by templates or default settings. (I'm also currently sharing a computer with someone else, and my own would be soo helpful for my business!)

I will be attending college starting in August and will be studying in the field of journalism (you will hear more about that on my site) and I posted pictures of some of the "journalistic" things I did while in high school on the website. I really liked creating a site with Moonfruit because it felt like I was laying out a newspaper again, and that made me even more excited about college. I started creating this before you announced an 11th MBP giveaway, and was excited to hear about it when halfway finished.

My passion in life consists of AA: Art and Animals. I've created art since I could hold the tools, and have loved animals from the moment I knew of their existence. I'd fearlessly walk up to big german shephards when I was a toddler. Now that I am old enough, I'm studying Art Education at my college to further expand my creative knowledge, and hopefully share that with kids and adults who may have trouble finding the key to unlocking their imagination. After graduation, I'm ambitious to pursuing a field that will allow me to get more involved with helping animals. For now, I do my part by pet-sitting, and taking a percentage of commission money to donate to local charities. I'm fresh on the market and as ambitious as ever to reach my potential, inspire others, and save lives.

For its simplicity, it gets to the point, and shows my big works as of late. There are a few things that still need completion, but it's hard gathering the right prices to attract the right customers. Thanks so much for your consideration. (Maybe even request a Moonfruit design? ;D Haha!)

Wow! it was alot of fun making a website on moonfruit! it was easy and simple. probably even a caveman can do it. jk. My site that I built shows what I'm most passionate about and that is life and helping others.

Moonfruit simply allows anyone make a beautiful website with little or no experience, and that's what my site shows. I have NO experience in website making, design or anything of that sort. So to actually make such a beautiful webstie with the tools provide is simply amazing. I am glad it is easy to get your favorite content out there. you didn't have to worry about the design of the website.

I think my site is special because its very unique. the content may be the same as some other people but if you read the message on what im passionate about i think you'll understand why its so unique. my wesbite is beautiful and simple. the words built around moonfruit. I had tons of fun making my web site. I had been trying to create one for about a year, with no luck at all. I found Dreamweaver and CSS to be very confusing. So, finding your web site was definitely lucky for me! I made my web site within a few days and I'm extremely happy with it.

My site is really important to me because I am a recent graduate from college, and I'm hoping to start a photography business. Therefore, I created a site to showcase my photography (and later, video). I wanted to site to be very clean and minimal, so as not to clash with my photos. I also created my own logo, which I think is very important in order to brand yourself and have people recognize your stuff.

I think my web site should win because it is one that is really important to me. I will use my web site to show my work to prospective clients and get jobs!

I am the ICT manager at Water Orton Primary School and also do education consultancy work. I used Moonfruit to build my own website (www.katemacrae.co.uk) and loved it so much that I used it to design and build the school website. Moonfruit is so easy to use my 'Computer Crew' (a wonderful team of 10 and 11 year olds) have access rights to build pages as well to showcase what is going on in school. Staff are able to build pages (although the kids are much better at it!) and the site is very well used by both pupils and parents.

Our school website could be epic.... only held back by my lack of time to spend on it, but I love its versatility and the ease at which you can create a really attractive, informative page in just a few minutes. The kids love all the animations and text effects and I have to limit the number they can use on one page!

Once the html snippet is sorted, our aim next year is to have a live webcam feed from a nest box webcam! The html snippet can't quite cope with it yet!

We have great aspirations for our site and I aim to get more pupils having a real 'hands-on' chance to build pages, hopefully leading to them building their own website..... many are certainly more than capable!

Why I should win...

My original website was one of those awful one page sales letters that go on forever. My goal was to get as far away from that model as possible and make the site more appealing, practical and effective.

With moonfruit I was able to easily add valuable content and free video lessons to the site as well as providing samples of my DVDs which enabled me to streamline the sales copy, making my site far more user friendly, attractive and effective.

I’m delighted that I’ve been able to offer my customers a refreshing design and feel that moonfruit has enabled me to accomplish exactly what I set out to achieve.

The new site looks fantastic. I’m totally new to moonfruit and this is my first project but I’m already addicted. My site has taken just two days so far and I’m really excited to continue its development, as well as working on future projects.

Hello Moonfruit. My name is Oleg, i live in Moscow, Russia. I study Advertising at the State University of Management. I don't see other Russians in this contest, so i think i will be the first :) I saw the other contest's websites and, guys, i think it is awesome. You have done a big amount of work here. And now i want to represent you my site. I have a little story for you about it:

One month ago my laptop was stolen :( So today i use my pc. It is very old, it is very slow and so on. I made some kind of portfolio/homepage using this slow and old pc. So you can ask me: "Ok, but why your website is unique?"

Because there is one more thing.

I asked myself: "How you will make a website without your "Adobe Creative Suite" and other software with that slow pc?" And i've got an idea! I will make a website by using my browser only. So there what i have used:

That's why my site is unique. It wasn't easy (that's why im represent you my work so lately), but it was a great experience for me. I'm happy to participate in this contest, because i can show other people that it is possible. Of course, that "scheme" don't work without Moonfruit, so thank you guys for this nice service.

Hi, there are alot of great website here so im not going to say i think i deserve the mac book because we all do.

I created my website to help other moonfruit users find new ways to make there moonfruit website that little bit better with websites and service i have found. MF Tools is free to use and you can also share with others tips and services that work with moonfruit, the website is not finished but i work on it every day.

I dont think there is a website like mine to help moonfruit users so i guess at the moment its one of a kind, i designed all the website my self and tried to keep it simple. This is what 5 months of hard work has built and im still going trying to finish it soon.

Hi, I created my site totally on my own, doing all the designing and adding of the info etc... I dread to think how many hours i've put in over the last six months. I'm really proud of it though, I LOVED the storyline that the site is based on when it was broadcast a couple of years ago, so I finally decides to make a site at the end of last year and i've now got it looking (I think) pretty great. I'm also responsible for all the videos and so forth aswell. There are still a few adjustments that need to be made, but I kinda think it's good enough now to give the comp a shot. Cheers, Jon.

I Deserve to win the Mac because i have really gotten involved in Media and I need a computer to edit my videos on...I am avid actor and I have really been trying to save up some money to get a good mac for recording and editing. I'm a graphic artist and entrepreneur and have been a dedicated fan and member of Moonfruit pretty much just after it began when I discovered it. My design skills has grown up with it really as new tools have come in. Its great now to see just what you can create with all the Moonfruit widgets. I believe my site should win because I've learned that less is more in design and over cluttering a site just makes navigation and the whole site experience not the best, so people won't return. I've studied design over the years and I am constantly challenging myself with my new projects to create sites that are clean and look good because I believe that's what people want to see. I would absolutely love a Macbook Pro, it would really help me so much with my creativity and let me further my taste for design. Hey, Moonfruit! This is my first real website, and the tools you guys have provided not only made it easy, but it also made it look pretty awesome. In spite of the fact that I had to use a pre-made theme, I think I managed to put my own twist on it without making it too flashy or obnoxious. My site definitely represents me and my creativity. The site is simple, but sometimes simple can really be powerful. I tried to go outside of the box with the tools and the design. Unlike the other entries, my site doesn't have over 1,000 views, it only has one page, and it only opened today - But I'm hoping my little site is good enough. http://canteenoncliftonstreet.com was created to support my brother-in-law's dream of opening a restaurant. It's been open now for 18 months and is quietly becoming very successful. Part of the success is down to moonfruit software which has allowed us to create a site that supports Canteen's 'community' of customers. It makes full use of the membership tools, the easy graphical nature of Flash, and ultimately the great software that is Sitemaker. Here is my entry, this took me atleast 40 hours of work over a couple of months to design the inital layout and content and is ongoing work as it is a fully functional store.

It think the layout is very easy to use and navigate and gives a true reflection of the actual shop in Leigh on Sea Essex - I tried to give the site the feel of you were actually in the shop - the wallpaper borders match the shop interior and the design ties in with the store stationery etc...

I have set the shop owner up as admin giving her access to certain parts of the site so she can change and upload new stock etc as she wishes.

The site has over 40 pages within it, but still remains easy to use.

I hope you like it... any feedback appreciated.

When I was looking at different outlets to display my photography portfolio, I never thought I would come across such a power house site builder like moonfruit, I wanted something very simple, but it needed to look complex (flash elements etc) after a few weeks of twinkering and getting to know all the tools, this is the website I have made.

Some design elements I went in with, I wanted it to be quick, clean, and simple with just enough graphic elements to keep your attention so that it's not boring, I wanted my photo's to be the center of attention but still have the basic information (contact info etc) be easy to find and read. And most of all I wanted the site to be easy to navigate. The site was built entirely using moonfruit builder, from a blank canvas.

Why I think is should win, hmm...well I think it's simple and a great design that fits the theme as well as uses the "Moonfruit Site Builder" effectively. Its not cluttered and confusing to navigate though and it gets straight to the point without over doing it. Other than that I think it is a great example of what you can do with the "Moonfruit Site Builder"

My reasons for the theme...Well this year I got to play in the worlds largest woodsball paintball scenario. It consisted of around 3000 to 4000 players. People from young and old come from all over the world like America, UK, Australia, Canada and more to play in this event. One thing I realized in this game was the comradery between the players and the passion they had for the game. What I won't forget is the respect for the Armed Forces that fight for us know and those who fought in World War II. This was really honored and highly respected there. I really felt like I was apart of something epic, like I was in DDay for real, well as real as I could get anyway :) Anyway I did this site project
to share my experiences and to hopefully get others to join in on the game and experience it as well. I also would love to win, win or lose it was fun project.

Sorry you weren't happy with some of our winners. We judged them on merit/humour as they came in. Tear96 was one of the very first entries before we started receiving hundreds each day. We wanted to give prizes to different types of entries that we thought were the best of each type. As you can imagine it's often very hard to compare entries which can be so different. You might look back and say X was better than Y, but we did these each day and we took them as they came.

Ok, why is my site special? Ermmm....well, I think it maybe a Moonfruit first. An interactive, portfolio, soap opera, comic, cartoon based website, with a twist!

At least I think it is?

It knows more than me me to be honest. I'm just it's little slave, creating more rooms, and adding to it's power. It knows what it is, but it's not telling me.

I'm just the janitor.

One day, I think it'll try and eat me. Like Audrey 2 from the little shop of horrors.
Because it is a bit of a first, and it it quite unique, It's really hard for me to explain it. Only a click of the link will suffice. If you figure out what it is, then please get back to me with an answer. I'd really like to know.

It is something i'll add to whilst I continue to be a Moonfruit member. I've been an advocate of you guys since 2001, so i think this relationship will continue for some time...

...the more work I create, the more i'll add. What you can see there is the very start of what the towers will become. I've only added a small amount of my stupid stuff so far.

But the exciting thing is...with your membership tools, I can create rooms for other moonfruit users. Bands. Artists. Whatever. I can create them a cartoon room, with props, and they can live there like me, in cyberspace. Have their own cartoon site within a site.
But then, I can incorporate those people into the soap opera. Into the comic. Even into songs.

The whole thing is set up for interactivity. The whole thing is set up for other people to get involved, so it'll become less about me, myself and I. I've also set up a cartoon based click and point chat applet in flash. Does it work in Moonfruit? You betcha!

Then, there are placeholders for adverts dotted around the walls.

I hope you can see where this is going...

So, a shiny new mac book pro, would mean I could push the concept further. Mac's like ideas, and I have lots of ideas! Too many, probably...

I have worked with moonfruit sites for many years, when we lost our special brother in law "James" I knew i could keep his memories live with moonfruit.
The slide show displays his pictures, the music player blast out his favorite track.
my family and friends visit moonfruit to say prays and leave a bithday messages, when christmas comes round i know a place they will not forget " james.moonfruit"

this story made the newspapers.
keeping loved one memories online helps families come to terms with ther sad loss and this can be easily acheived with the API that you get from moonfruit,no other sitemaker can do that?

My Moonfruit website should be chosen because it shows how computers can spark a three year-old child with a speech delay to not only speak, but to communicate through written words.

Two years ago, my son made no sound at all...not even a squeal. Now he is speaking AND spells out words on the computer!

I've briefly documented our struggles with speech and developmental delays, on our Moonfruit website. I've included a short video of my son writing "e-mails" to me on our PC that has no internet connection.

This fall my son is enrolled in a gifted and talented program, and the children must have their own laptops. I would love to give him my old MacBook, but I would need to replace it with another, which as a single parent, I just cannot afford right now.

My Moonfruit website may not be the snazziest (I only have so much time in a day...so it was quickly thrown together), but I found the site building tools so easy to work with! It was enjoyable, and oh so simple, to build a website on Moonfruit!

I would love to win a new MacBook Pro - be able to give my laptop to my son, to continue encouraging his love of language, and have an outlet for sharing our experiences with other parent of special needs children, using a Moonfruit website.

So I thought to myself: I'm on holydays, and I have nothing to do, and it's late at night and I don't want to go to bed, and despite I don't have MY computer I want to go into this content anyway. I like challenges.
And I was thinking about what I could do so I thought of people who did their jobs and it wasn't showed. Mine was one of them, I guess. It doesn't matter, anyway.

Congrats Moonfruit. You've given away 20 prizes and have alienated all but 20 of your customers. Yet this advertising was a success.

Hope you don't lose any subscribers who put their hard work into making creative and often humorous creative responses. Sadly, you went out and chose stupid crap like tear96's video, which was, literally, a piece of crap. I'm sorry, but if all it took was just ONE mention of moonfruit to be considered "creative", then by all means many of the creative songs or pictures, based solely around moonfruit should've won.

If all it took was a random video of some kid talking about his new shorts, I could've gotten my kid brother to win me an iPod Touch. But no. You chose what you thought was "creative". I'm fairly sure, if you took all the creative entries from the contest and put them to a vote, you would come out with remarkably different results.

Hope your "creative" side shows through on each and every one of your precious little websites. I for one, will not follow you on Twitter again.

The reason I should win this macbook pro is because I want to continue making my photo gallery bigger. I love how moonfruit allows me to make a site that is so organized and aesthetically appealing. I love simplicity, and that is exactly what moonfruit offers me. I received the laptop I am currently using through school, and every summer I must return it so that they can re-boot and add new programs. However, do to their constant addition of programs on my computer, it has become extremely slow and I am always getting the spinning beachball of death. (Cue to laugh). Besides having a slow laptop, I won't be having a laptop at all very soon for the rest of my summer. My family does not have another computer, so this one laptop is for the whole family to use. Sad, I know. So if I win the macbook pro, it will not only benefit me, but my family as well.

1) It requires what you mentioned. I made a website for digital artwork, for art, which i am passionate about. And the appearence fits perfectly with its objective.
2) I made icons for every title: A newspaper for "news", a joystick for "games" etc...
3) It has bright colors and it's really inspiring because of the theme! Check out my artwork lol
4) It contains all the pages a designer needs, even a Flash Portfolio!
5) There are animated graphics making the page beautiful and fun to browse. It's inviting and happy.

I finished my site in time for entry, so here goes. My names Natalie, but on my site I'm known as 'kato35'. I'm 17 years old and come from Australia. My moonfruit site is Kato Designs ---> http://www.katothetiger.com which Ive had for just over a year and a half now. I put a lot of effort into it, but so far it doesnt have Paypal so I can only sell my products to friends (so far, so good) or via Ebay, which I havent done yet.

Id love to win a Macbook Pro. I think we all would. But I'm not going to rant on about why I'd use it, I just want to enter my site (hope it has a chance), and get some feedback :P

My site is called Kato Designs, but its based on two separate stationery ranges: the kato the tiger range, which is based on 10 of my cartoon characters, and the Kreative Kard range, which is a range of my unique handmade card designs. I decided that 20% of the sales will go to WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) because they help save endangered species, which is what the Kato the Tiger range is based on.

This site i made showed my capabilities of graphic design and how much a macbook would help me achieve greater possibilites with my career as a graphic design artist. As you might read in my bio that I'm majoring in 3 things. Graphic design, Dance and Communications. This macbook would help me alot in school. I think i deseve the Macbook because I worked really hard in high school but couldn't go to a UC and ended up going to Cal State and now i'm going to City due to I can't afford my classes. I had to sell my last laptop to get money for college. My parents wouldn't have to worry about getting me a good computer for my school or my graphic
design career. They both work 3 jobs and are barely staying afloat.
My boyfriend is trying to help me pay for my classes this upcoming term $400 and I'm still looking for a job which i got laid off earlier this year. I volunteer my time at shelters, orphanges and kitchen soups. I also donate most of my clothes to those less fourtante to me. I would really love this laptop it would totally take off the financial burden and pressure off me and my family. you have no idea how much this would take off the stress of me and my family. when i saw this contest i was like i knew how much i could do with the concept. I also created the macbook pro vector by myself if you're wondering.I could do so much more and reach my potential if i could have a mac. I have to resort using an old computer thats borrowed from my boyfriends. If #moonfruit was an advertising/marketing campaign it was not wholly successful for some of us remain clueless about what "moonfruit" is. (Obviously some of us are not Mac's.)

As an example of "power of the people" to take something and run with it how glorious!

It is also an example of unintended consequences, for the present it seems to also restrict other topics of legitimate interest to twppl from not only hitting the trending topics list, but also from even being searchable.

Difficult issues to sort through particularly in the effort to foil spammers* while affording users open communications. *(I'm thinking specifically of spammers who tweet their link with every current trending topic as their content.)

Dear Moonfruit,
Why should you pick my site? Because I made Moonfruit my own. And that is the whole point is it not? To push the limits of your creative boundaries, to be fresh and exciting? I thought your template designs were good, but then I realized I could make them better.
Graphic design is my one-and-only passion. For the past two years it has totally killed me not being able to study it further. I am just a meager college student trying to make it from one semester to the next. Even with help from family, I constantly find myself scraping the bottom of the barrel and getting the money to buy my own macbook seems like a hopeless fantasy at this point. Despite my desperate need for this bare-bones chunk of plastic some might confuse for a laptop, against my better judgment, I overheated it to the point that it could have burst into flames, just so I could make my site layout. For a macbook, I would do just about anything. They were BUILT for the visual arts, and I pine to be a part of that world like you cannot imagine.

Hey Moonfruit,

Can't tell you how much I'm digging your website! After finding out about Moonfruit from lifehacker.com, I created the site Eggs ( www.eggs.moonfruit.com ) to share some insight on various topics that might come across everyday. I think many people would enjoy Eggs because it's not just a site of blogs, but rather 'rants' ranging from how society views racial tension to how a teenage boy can get with the ladies. My friend and I try to add some humor to these rants, and occasionally "cross the line." In our opinion, it showcases today's generation and also makes the experience an enjoyable one.

Apart from our rants, what I value is the simplicity yet creativity that flourishes from the design of Eggs. It's fun and easy to maneuver around. There are sections such as "Giggidy" and "The Good Stuff" for added entertainment, but not too many jumble-mumbled area that might confuse users.

The one idea I hope to incorporate with Eggs is that I, along with writers for Eggs, stay true to what we want to express. Eggs, like anything else, is not for everyone. However, we hope everyone can share their views with us.

I have to admit, I had no idea moonfruit existed until I saw the contest on twitter, now i can't stop raving about it. I didn't know building a site could be so easy! I always thought you needed to know how to write code and things like that but with moonfruit it couldn't be simpler. I decided to create a site about my dog Sally, I want to be able to share things I have learned from her and also that other will be able to share things about their pets with me. It's a great way to share ideas and things I have learned with other pet lovers. One of my favorite pastimes is browsing my friends on facebook and finding an odd picture that would work perfect for some photoshopping. Because I'm outraged that I've been denied #moonfruit and a MacBookPro.

Nah, I kid.

What started out as a mere curiousity to this competition, turned out to be an investment of some sort; joining this competition led me to explore the Moonfruit website, where it is so easy to create a beautiful website all on your own, at no costs, at all. I have always kept away from creating or designing my very own website because they looked intimidating and it never occured to me that it would be all at our fingertips, and so user-friendly.

I joined the competition with the intention to get a shot at winning the MacBookPro or at the very least an iPod touch (I very much doubt so though, because I am a blatant green horn, there are such better professionals out there who would beat me hands down, but no harm trying, I reckon) but came away with a website to deposit my hobbies together; writing and photography.

Now, I don't claim to be good, but I will say that I do try.

In any case, I thank Moonfruit for this experience. You guys are awesome !

When your contest hit the Twitter trends I was reminded of your facility which I had enjoyed back in the heady days of online site-builders and had loved and revisited my roots.

The weird thing was that that VERY day I sort of hit a realisation- that an era of intense motherhood had ended and that I could rediscover my own creativity at long last.

My website, Five Part Harmony @ Moonfruit, is going to be my vessel for attempting to capture the essence of what is in my head and pull it all together to make sense of it:

For I am a textile designer (http://www.annasach.com), an environmentalist and teacher who has spent the last four years ensuring that my child makes good her promise in academia and who has just been given back "time" with @BrigidMhairi 's leaving of school and most importantly I am a frustrated writer.

For I have about four books which I would love to write but for some reason, I just don't have the knack for it.

For I realised that film-making, on the other hand, IS a feasible form of expression for me, and I had already decided to return to college to add another string to my bow and study AV Tech this Autumn.

Five Part Harmony refers to a line in the Arlo Guthrie song Alice's Restaurant and acknowledges the driving energy behind my need to make films- Music. I believe I should win because my site is centered around my personal opinion, not a site based upon who can make the best "suck up to Moonfruit" site (no offense everyone else, you did a really nice job!!!). When I say "personal opinion", I mean it. I chose the name Rantage! because I wanted a little more than a blog on which I could express my personal opinions for things I came across on the Internet. I created the site based on something I like to do, which is write, and express an opinion. Other than a blog/rant site, it is also my personal website, which I will add my tastes such as music and other things, including a place to promote my favorite band, which I am on it's street team. I want a place where one can find my personal thoughts, as well as my personal "myspace'! My plans for my site are something that I can use each and every day, instead of a display site. I feel as if I have as good a chance as everyone else here, but I think I have a better reason to win than some.

This web site is to serve a youth roller hockey league based in West Central Ohio. We have been in dire need of a new web site for some time now, and this
contest seemed to be a calling.

Our roller hockey league is one of the biggest in Ohio and offers a 7 week season, plus a week of tournament games to nearly 300 kids in five divisions
ranging from ages 3-18. We aim to reach the area youth at risk to provide them something better to do in the summer when away from school other than being
involved with trouble.

While most hockey leagues in the area charge nearly 100 dollars or more per season, our registration cost has always been 15 dollars to cover the general
maintenance of the league throughout the season. We are able to do this through the help of several volunteers every week. From the coaches, the referees,
those running the score board, and those in the concession stands, and even myself, the web master, all 100% volunteers.

We are currently in the middle of our 12th season and are looking forward to providing the area with several more seasons of fun. In a given day, we see well
over 700 people come to our outdoor facility to watch their kids, nephews, nieces, grandparents, and more play hockey.

We would like to do a lot more with our web site than you currently see however. Instead of just scores and stats, we would like to provide a little more
interaction with our visitors. We are currently looking at providing live video steam of our rinks during game days. In addition, we would like to be able to
do live scoring, stats, and weather reports with our web site. Along with a weekly vlog of the current scores, and standings during a game day.

However, due to the lack of funds that are able to be spent on technology with the league, and my personal funds that I use to run our current web site, a lot
of this isn't possible. If you choose me to be your last Mac Book Pro winner, we would then have a portable computer for our league to use so we could do
this kind-of stuff. We would then have something wireless, and mobile to use while at our hockey rink to provide the live streaming, scoring, and more.

Hi MF/People,

Ive been using MF for just about 4 years now. I started when I was 14 and since then I've learnt a lot about how to make functional and easy to navigate websites thanks to the ease of use of MF.

I just started as a hobby when I made a website for an organisation that I am part of. But then when I started my GCSE's/A-levels I had to start up my own business for my Business Studies Coursework. So I started a website design website. Since then, I have been experimenting with different layouts, styles, colour schemes etc. very easily.

When I applied for Uni, I had to show experience in business and there was no better way than to show the site that I designed. Needless to say, the admission tutors were very impressed and I got offers from all 5 Unis that I applied to.

I am going to enter the web design website that I made for my GCSE/A-Level Coursework into the competition.

I have worked very hard on the design, layout and content of the site. I hope you see it as I do. I have tried to make it look as professional as I can.

I think my site should win because of the good design and easy to navigate layout as well as flowing content and good use of images.

The front page of this site says it all from me. The design, build and pulling together of the material about my father who had passed away ...proved for me a very powerful way to grieve and Share with friends and family. The guestbook says it all... I ended up using many of Moonfruits great features, video, photos, mp3 and so on.

As traditional as going to a cemetery might be... my idea was to create a place that any friend or family member could visit anytime to remember my father... who to this day teaches me to share.

That is what I did here.

I created http://mpyoung.moonfruit.com for a friend who heading out into the real world from college soon. He is a media production major and wanted a website that presented his skills, resume, work, and, most importantly, his creative personality to potential clientele and employers. He desired to stand out from the conventional websites that most individuals in his line of work develop with one that was more fresh and humorous.

This was my first attempt at building a website (and using Moonfruit) and I would have to say that the usage was phenomenal. I was able to build a completely personalized design from scratch with the simple tools that Moonfruit provides. The website still has some areas to work out (additional files to upload, etc.), but for the most part it currently shows the unique look I was going for. He can easily upload and change the content of the site himself when he wants, now that my design portion is complete.

Oh well... It seems that Robert from Chill Media Group had a similar idea as me for a website when I was browsing through the entries now, but I guess great minds think alike! Our entries are unique enough though to dissociate them for their different purposes.

I only started making this site yesterday, and I must say that I'm quite impressed with your Site Maker. I originally had a site on Wordpress, but I'm pretty sure that I'll be switching over to stay at Moonfruit for good.

I've seen a lot of sites about Moonfruit being made for the competition, but I decided to take a different route. In your post, you told us to make a site about something that we're passionate about. Well I am passionate about making films and videos, so that's what I chose. My passion in film is also what's driving me to enter the competition. Having a Mac is almost essential for professional video production, and I'm hoping that this contest will get me one step closer to being a professional.

Why do I think my site should win?
I feel that my site demonstrates how easy and customizable Site Maker is. After only a short while of toying around with the program, I felt like I had it down. It only took me a couple of hours to construct what I think is a very professional looking website. This would be good to advertise to small companies, or people like myself that want a good looking portfolio. All of the images (save for the arrows) on the site were custom made by myself, and very easily integrated into the pages for a smooth look.

Another reason would be to show how customizable the site is. I started out with the DJ template, but completely turned it around and made it my own. A lot of free-hosting sites offer templates for you to use, but you're locked into the design and don't have enough options to customize the site, so all of the web pages end up looking like cookie-cutter designs. This is most definitely not the case with Moonfruit.

I feel like my website takes advantage of a lot of key features that Moonfruit offers. I have comments avaliable on the front page, I'm using a blog to keep track of my productions, I'm using the embedded videos a LOT, and I have a contact form just in case anyone has any questions about my videos or my site. Also, I took advantage of being able to have a custom icon for your site, which I rarely (if ever) see offered on other free hosting services.

Another unique point about my site can be found under the 'My Videos' section. If you scroll down, there's a button that offers a game based off of a film that I made. It's a point-and-click Choose your own Adventure game, made entirely within Moonfruit's Site Maker. I originally planned for it to be longer, but because of time restraints and a page limit, I was only able to make a smaller version. However this does show just another cool thing that can be done with the Site Maker software.

I really hope you all enjoyed viewing my site as much as I did making it. Please, when you're judging it, try and take a look at all of the pages. I put a lot of my time and passion into each one. Thank you, Moonfruit, for offering such a fun competition, and I hope that you have a good time looking at all of the wonderful sites being made by your software!

With my first attempts at making a website (and ever using Moonfruit), I believe that the results came out fantastic (view it with Flash Player btw!!).

I wanted to design a unique layout that fit his witty and creative personality to make him stand out from the crowd of typical boring corporate websites that individuals have. Created with the vibe of freshness, inspired by the delicate colours of nature , a dedication to our beautiful environment ... our inspiration for design.

This particular website (which will soon be our main site) sprung into my mind while I was taking my dog for his daily stroll. I looked up into the sky and I saw this amazing glow of southern light sprayed across the sky, it there and then I knew - that my next website will be inspired by nature.
With the powerful tools of SM I was able and capable to create this piece which I call - "Freshness". Innovative from the ground up, using significant curvature and stark darkness to create a figurative and expressive tribute to true web design.
In addition, using the bold fonts and stylised tones, it creates this calming atmosphere.

I've been with Moonfruit since the year 2000, and since then, I've given my homepage a lot of different looks. Originally, I created a Louise Redknapp fansite which I still love to design and update, but lately, my efforts have been more focussed on my personal site. I've seen Moonfruit develop so much over the years and I've always used my website to test new widgets. I currently enjoy making videos and planting them on to my site. My homepage was made for all my family and friends, and anyone who was interested in my travels, which later became a blog of my life. I think my website should be picked as it is a rather unique idea that I have developed and am still developing. It comes from an interest I am very passionate about which is Christmas Lights and the Christmas displays which is unusual for an 18 year old male. I always loved the lights as a child and have been working on my display for over 5 years (yes, since I was 13.) Last year I won the best lit house in Birmingham in the Birmingam Mail newspaper and collected over £200 for charity. This has led me to develop my website. The website theme is out of season at the moment but I hope that doesn't affect my chances. My website 'Lights4Charity' centers around people in the UK who decorate their houses for Christmas, no only or themselves but to raise money for worthwhile charities. Please take the time to read around the website to learn more about it and what I intend to do with it. Please remember that this is a project that I started this year and that has only just gone live or this competition and wasn't intended for launch until aroun October this year, so please don't be put off by the lack of members at the moment. This site has never been release or seen before in its current form. The fact that it hasn't yet been officially launched means it has recieved no advertising of any kind up until now but the inital response from people with display who have only heard about the idea has been very good.

My name is Japheth. I recently purchased a 2 year hosting/domain subscription through another host, but this is by far the easiest website I have ever made. I do small web design things for my church and to promote myself to gain clients for graphic design, and I was very impressed with my end result of what took 2 or 3 hours with Moonfruit. When my 2 years are up with my current host, I will most likely switch over to moonfruit just from my experience today. The reason I came to Moonfruit in the first place was this whole Macbook Pro giveaway. I have always loved apple's computers and have never been able to save enough up to buy one. I work with some at school (Senior in High School this year) and I love designing on them.
In the next year, to continue my education in college for graphic design or graphic communications, the majority of design programs either require or strongly recommend macs. I also need to purchase the Adobe Creative Suite to further my knowledge but can't right now until I get a mac because the software is operating system specific. My current PC that I work on now, has a record of crashing every 2-3 months and I can never rely on it working. I was originally going to have enough saved up by the end of this summer to get the macbook that I wanted but then problems arose. My car that I thought was pretty reliable has been breaking down left and right and I need it to get to work and school. So now I am forced to put my mac purchase on the back burner until I can afford a more reliable car. It seems as though I have been saving for this single computer for the past two years and now do not have the money again to get it.

I'd just personally like to use this moment to thank you for the exhilarating ride you have given me over the past 7 days. I tweeted my heart out, even having moments laying in bed - trying to come up with witty tweets that featured the moonfruit hash tag. I congratulated each winner, each and every day and also received some very kind words from one of the winners of the creative prize; I was even given full support by this person of whom I thank very much, also for this support.

To me, the way you have run this competition, I believe - was excellent to say the very least. It was the first of its kind; you even made Twitter history with the trending topic - being randomly removed. There have been so many fun moments, inventing new ideas related to the pointing machine, of which I had amazing visions of in my head and to me, that is what has made this competition very special. I'm not the best artist this world has ever seen, but to me that isn't what counts, I wanted to be a part of what you guys had created. i really need a new computer, my old pc is horrible. Really slow and crashes alot. It is about 8 years old and is windows 2000 or something. I'm a PC but i want to transfer to a mac. I'm only 12 years old and cant afford a mac myself. I want to start making videos on YouTube and teaching other people. I love the design of the Mac and use my old computer everyday for homework even though it really slow and takes me forever to connect to the internet. I was looking for an easy digital way to show off my photos from a recent trip to Africa. I learned basic HTML a long time ago but found it difficult with all the new programming to create a good looking, easy website. Using Moonfruit was the easiest way to create this online scrapbook/album so I can share my photos and still be green!

I love that it's so easy to use and am still working out a few kinks and trying the different options that there are. I think my site shows how easy it is to create a simple, but professional looking site for personal usage!

I made the site for me and my lil bros youtube page. We love making videos together and we have been looking for a spot to hold contest other then youtube. So when you enter our page our SUBSCRIBE/ TWITTER banners are up. also we have people that make us banners so we picked the best and threw that one up there to. In the videos section we let our viewers choose there top four fav vids and put those in there.
so yeps thats a basic summery of the site.

hopefully we will win this contest! it would be nice to have a new computer instead of the 'rents old one!

Hi, everyone at Moonfruit! My name is Abby Adesanya and I have been addicted to three things since I was a child: fashion, technology, and literature. I am currently 17 years old and I can accurately say that I've been working on the computer since I was about five years old. I made fun little websites by 9, (keyword 'fun', not pretty!) and wrote short stories in a notebook I always carried around at 10, even though my handwriting was apparently only legible to myself. Discovering Moonfruit now shows me just how much technology has evolved. Moonfruit definitely supplied an easier way to create beautiful websites without having to be a pro at it. I created my moonfruit site, http://fashionintegrated.moonfruit.... as a way to display my stories and my love for fashion, hence the title--FashionIntegrated. To this day I still have many things I have written that are still unfinished, and my hard drive is truly paying for it. I'm running out of space on this four year old, haggard laptop of mine and I think I'm ready to make the jump from the obsolete Windows to the classy Macintosh. I'm going off to college soon, and I've been looking for something to keep my interest in fashion journalism piqued, and I think it's clear to me that my Moonfruit site is the best way to go! I'm pretty fond of it, and I want to continue updating it throughout the seasons, even after this MBP competition. I don't want a whole day's hard work to go to waste! I think that you should pick my website because it embodies what ANYONE can do with Moonfruit. It's basically a homepage for all my multimedia outlets (video, photography, blogging etc.). The moonfruit site builder made it so easy to put together a great website and I think that, though my site isn't exactly the fanciest, it really shows how far you can go when you use a great site-builder like Moonfruit.

The site is an entertainment website that includes my YouTube videos (some vlogs, some webseries, some scripted), my photography, and a bit about me. It's a personal site, but I think it's worthy of winning for best website. I think my use and placement of graphics is fun and eye-catching. I think you'll enjoy it. I will be adding more of my photography soon as well, so look forward to that.

It was really a phenomenal experience, the site got a lot of press attention across the world (I tracked blog posts from America to China), and although it isn't updated any more, it still gets a decent number of clicks and I still get people emailing to say 'thanks, your site has helped me [or my son/daughter] to get into reading'. Incredible stuff - and all thanks to Moonfruit for the design back-end!

I love the functionality of the drag and drop design, the easy resizing and manipulation of images, the animation effects to make your site look that bit more "expensive" - I've used fifteen "image effects" on my front page alone including "fade" and "fly". Moonfruit gives me full e-commerce functionality and I've sold quite a few of my CDs through my website. It lets me add music to pages seamlessly - important for me as a musician. I love the fact that I can use large and colourful jpegs as links - rather than the usual "boring" list of website names. Lastly, and importantly moonfruit gives me excellent google placement. I've been evangelical about moonfruit to my friends, and the recent twitter promotion has made everyone much more aware of it as a web-building tool. Congratulations on a genius bit of marketing!

A web site must reflect it's content. For showing art works it's best to choose a simple design, for music/bands you can choose a more "wilder" design. We're not disagreeing with you. I am sorry you're being followed by anti-social spam.

The two points we are making is that there have been and still are thousands of marketing campaigns already running on twitter from companies, celebs, freelancers, marketers and individuals. Twitter knows that. By censoring the #trends they are saying it's OK for you to do that as long as you don't get too big, That's fine, they should do that, we love twitter but they should communicate the rules are moving. Twitter are not naive, they walk a fine line between needing marketing on their site as they will need to commercialise and not annoying consumers. I'm sure they have plans in the pipeline. Ultimately Twitter is democratic. If you don't want to be followed you can block people, if you don't like someone's tweets you can unfollow.

And secondly we are touched and appreciate people's creativity. Yes people want macbooks but they've also been playing with the name and what we do and personally I thank you all for that and having a little fun.

We hope some people will ultimately stay and enjoy Moonfruit and if you move on we totally respect that too.

Do you remember way back when the internet was just another broadcast channel? I would say about, oh, 10 years ago... I remember happily trying to spew sales messages to the world and then the moonfruit idea surfaced with the thinking, "you know what the internet needs? communities!"

Moonfruit was a system based on, among the other, more commercial hopes, a hope to create a community, nay communities of like-minded people, allowing them to connect for free, in a space where prejudice couldn't function.

Tracing the path of the internet and it's usage over the past 10 years, and continuing to work in the industry, I've seen the inexorable creep towards the internet BEING a community with the internet itself being the common interest, culminating in this latest delightful toy called Twitter.

I think it's entirely fitting that the humble beginnings of Moonfruit and it's 10th anniversary are honoured using the latest online community technology, and it's that kind of savvy and forward thinking that's kept the 'fruit flying.

To be honest I am glad you have stopped using twitter for the competion which as you know twitter is a free social website (Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?) you were not putting the advert out there yourself but you were getting thousands to spam on your behalf about your website and what I objected to is you compare to michael jackson and tennis to your trend they were not spamming they were and are real events that are happing here and now and in no way are telling people to buy or sell anything it was not a competion but a real event were yours was a simple market ploy

the object of you was to make moonfruit appealing to attract new customers bye offering free websites no doubt hoping they would upgrade.. why I admire the campaign I objected in the way it was handled and to now have a go at twitter for taking you off top trends is also childish after all if you offered to help twitter make even a donation or even pre warn them of your campaign or intentions then it would of helped also you were in the top ten trends for quite sometime and remember the resources twitter used for free on your behalf what have they got out of it ?

there is no point in crying over spilt milk it was right to end the campaign you have the resources yourself you could of done it on the moonfruit website itself and friends and followers could if they wanted to have followed however you involved another website without even telling them and it cost you nothing to have sent a email

I questioned before why you are using twitter your reply was "as it is a free instant quick responce" it made more sence

It also sends out the wrong message for other companys to now bombard spam and un solicte there companys I am on your twitter I also have helped advertise moonfruit and tried to enter the competion but as a result of that i now have over 200 new people following me now which most are selling everything from bra's panties to make your penis bigger god knows why lol

If you had gone to twitter in advance or even offered to pay for your spamming (ups advertising) then it would of been polite and good manners..

If you have now obtained new members and those who have upgraded as a result of twitter it is only fair to help twitter out who after all were at the for front of your campaign...

Sorry I am not licking your behind to get a free mac computer but I want Moonfruit to do well in all of the correct ways...

I enjoyed it while it lasted and yep- I feel that it has been a case of censorship.

BUT perhaps I do not understand the "dangers" of an overly popular trend... I know that Michael Jackson's untimely passing caused the net to suffer from freeze-ups as the news hit and perhaps that IS "dangerous", who knows?

Ultimately I have always enjoyed Moonfruit (I cannot believe that anyone involved in website construction in the early 90's was NOT aware of it!!) and now, thanks to THIS campaign (yep- I would LOVE a MacBook Pro to use for our recording facility @ http://www.chapelrecords.co.uk!) have rediscovered it.

Even built a new site, well the beginnings of one (http://fivepartharmony.moonfruit.co...) at just the right time for myself- a soon to be student of film. Welcome back Moonfruit - you shine as brightly (if not brighter) as before!

And you made Twitter a WHOLE lot of fun as I have met a lot of interesting people who share my interest in Macs and creativity (I was campaigning for @sutuma and see a prize was won!). For me that is the beauty of free speech- the ability to follow those you find interesting... And sorry- I do not find the marketeers who promise you that watching a video or listening to their advice will make you millions, remotely interesting. Nor those who are on Twitter to promote adult sites, following who ever they get in their computer monitors' sights.

And as for tweeting about it too much- ahem. I am following someone who tweets once every 20/40 seconds for 20 or so minutes at a time, several times a day. ;) Now THAT is "spamming". ;)

I won one of the creativity awards. I am from The Netherlands and my mother language is off course Dutch, but like most people I communicate online in English. But that's nothing more then reasonable, the Internet is mainly based on English and you can't expect that an UK firm is also translating all kind of entries.

So there is no reason to ignore this contest if you are not from UK or USA! The Apple store is world wide and as you can see with my winning, there is no discrimination on the contest!

Completely genius idea by Moonfruit. Captured the imagination of Twitter users by appealing to multiple desires: 1) to get something for nothing 2) the peacock effective of showing off our own creativity 3) belonging to a select band of people that are onto something cool.

Yes, it's exposed the flaws in Twitter that leave it open to marketing abuses, but look at the creativity, energy and engagement that took place around this. When was the last time you heard of someone creating a picture, poem or song to get some free Viagra or for a ex-Nigerian president who needs to borrow your bank account for a while?

Things will never be the same again. We clearly need hashtag filters or blockers. But this was opt-in marketing at its very best and anyone that feels it was a misuse of the Internet or Twitter completely misses the point of the whole exercise.

Its quite possible they decided to test your successful campaign to see if it could continue once it reached "critical mass", and did so without any bad vibe at all. However i do agree opening lines of communication is better than not doing so.

You did a number of things that set you apart from other companies that could use it as a destructive precedent - (1) you immediately changed the playing field at the risk of your own credibility, and "out of respect to the twitterverse" - (2) you are quite graciously opening a channel of discussion for the benefit of twitters own cred. - (3) your decision to judge on creativity lifted it out of mediocrity.

You guys have set the bar high for future marketers. Productive foolishness like I haven't had for a long time. i don't mind if twitter gets to be the place where this happens with many other marketers, but they need to communicate their concerns. maybe they are still choosing their words wisely.

The only thing you see is "#moonfruit" in the Trending Topics.

It doesn't seem very intrusive. Only your own curiosity will drive you to find out what it is (if you don't), and only your own clicking on the link to try to figure out what it is.

But if you know what #moonfruit is, then just ignore the trending topic. Feel free to unfollow anyone that you do not want messages from. It could be they are hungry for a new notebook computer. I personally just ignore it if someone mentions it.

Problem here is people like Phil Bradley are spending 3 paragraphs to complain about instead of just ignoring the Trending Topic.

i had fun with the contest. i picked up some new followers, and followed some new tweeters. i also made a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDNV... as far as spamming, i personally sent out a warning when i joined the #moonfruit bandwagon, so my followers had the option of censoring my tweets for the duration or unfollow me if they choose. i don't think it was malicious spam because it was coming from fellow tweeters and neither they nor moonfruit were actively trying to sell me something. plus i have the tweetdeck so i used that to tell me if my incoming tweets were moonfruit tags or normal tweets. everyone in the twitterverse had the option of blocking the moonfruit tweets, those who didn't and were upset with the moonfruiters, have only themselves to blame. that is was the setting tools are for, they should have used them. now i would be upset at regular commercials from people i didn't choose to follow showed up on my page.

Christine it's a good question. This campaign has gone far beyond our expectations and we certainly don't want to ruin the Twitterverse! However, our concern with the removal of #moonfruit from the trending topics is more about the precedent Twitter is setting and the implication on the future of Twitter.

There are thousands of marketing/pr/branding campaigns running on Twitter, run by companies, freelancers, marketers, journalists, celebrities and individuals. Many are viral in nature and therefore it's a spam 'grey' area mostly defined as whether followers like them or not. The joy of twitter is you can 'unfollow' as well as 'follow'. By removing our hashtag they're basically saying it's OK to do these campaigns as long as you're not too successful. I think they were right to do it but should have done so openly. Twitter is walking a fine line between needing these campaigns to eventually commercialise and not scaring off consumers. I think Twitter's reached the point where it needs to address this openly as campaigns will be on the increase.

I feel the whole of the #moonfruit phenomena has been a great amount of fun, and have gotten great response from some of my friends on my #moonfruit contributions - a tribute to Goodnight Moon one night, a few haiku, poems, etc.

Also, it's been a win/win, because @moontweet (you guys) RTed on of my haiku, and you have more followers than I do, and I got RTed in turn by others who have varying #s of followers.

I know that the tweeters who are RTing my haiku are alos getting a chance to win, on MY creativity, but hey, they're sharing my creativity, and my @yoga_mama profile.

So, I've gained followers, exposure, and some RT love and pride.

Thanks for the opportunity to join in a creative enterprise, make new friends, and have some fun.

And, I hope you'll check out #GRATITUDE Gathering next Sunday, if you can be up in the middle of the night - UK time. That's the hashtag I generated lo-these many months ago, and in addition to being a daily practice for many, the monthly Gathering is a great experience by all accounts.

Back when the Twitterverse was a smaller place, we trended in the top four for the first three months. I'd love to see that happen again, so any help we get in spreading #GRATITUDE by any and all who read this, THNX!

The content is irrelevant and repetition for the sake of advertising, but at least it does not end up unsolicited (you have to search for the hashtag). Let's face it, it's spam.

However, it's certainly not as bad as some household tat store jumping on the Iran elections bandwagon and pumping their adverts into a feed, and it is not self-referencing, self-following zombies that will dilute the regular users and content.

It's only a matter of time until Twitter descends into a mound of spam, and campaigns like these will be the thin end of the wedge.

I have enjoyed all of this enterprising Twitting. It is a revenue idea for Twitter so I expect there will be monetised schemes following. The creative specials have been amusing, the first I saw was the boy talking to camera, the most professional the child voice over of your tutorial with two paws.
I am interested in the timing of the take up. I usually tweet when I am not actively engaged in gardening/clearing/dog walks/rural pursuits. Filling time while the thunder storm goes over. Many thanks

Good comments. We're not that upset at being removed, you're right that we had our moment. It's more that this may be a shift in policy as these kind of activities become more common, which is probably healthy. But Twitter should probably make it clear what the new rules of the game are - when does something become spam? Twitter is full of marketing messages, but clearly it only becomes a problem when they reach a certain level. Which eventually defeats the point. Twitter will need marketing companies in order to eventually make money. But more importantly they need to keep their users happy otherwise there will be no one to market to. So it is a difficult balancing act. I hope that makes sense,

To some degree I can understand Twitters perspective, however at the same time I do believe they have failwhaled. Firstly for not opening a dialogue with yourselves which wouldn't have hurt, and secondly for not truly representing the trending topics.

i think you guys had your fun with it and it achieved the desired effect so you should be happy and declare a little mini victory and pat yourself on the back for a nice case study.

i think it's being a bit presumptuous to think Twitter owes you a reason for why they yanked your hashtag off trending topics. they're a private company. it's in their right to do so if they felt you were becoming spammy ...and you were. 10 days is a bit old. it starts to backfire on your brand after a while don't you think?

why do you guys care anyways? is it that no one nicely told you to back off their platform or is it because you really do want to keep seeing your cute #moonfruit tag on the trending topics?

isn't it enough that you can keep the contest going knowing that folks who have actually become loyal to your brand (did that happen?) are still using your hashtag and its being seen by their followers?

I'm glad someone passed me this link as I had been thinking about this for awhile now. I noticed when #squarespace did a competition for the iPhone, it trended for a day or two and then just fell off the face of the earth. Although I didn't care if it was a trending topic or not, it did make me curious why suddenly it stopped being one, despite the mentions of #squarespace seemingly doubled overnight. They also changed their rules towards the end, making one tweet good for the rest of the contest period, so I have a feeling they may have found much the same from their work.

I did notice a certain backlash as #squarespace became more and more popular. I wonder if you're facing similar problems. I do see some comments here that make me think there might be those that would rather keep Twitter contest/marketing/product free.

As for me, I don't care for trending topics much anyway. I'm not here to see what everyone is talking about, I'm here to talk about everything with everyone I know.

The evidence does appear to indicate that Twitter took some action, but it's right to allow them to explain. If they were making decisions about what people could and could not tweet about, that would be horrific. If they are making decisions that affect how people learn about what is going on in the world, that is merely extremely frightening. One of the things that Twitter has done is open many-to-many communication; uncharted territory. Twitter has gone places that could never have been imagined and it's impact truly extraordinary. But this was because it was left to the users to find new and creative ways to use it, uncensored. By censoring its use, Twitter is putting a cap on creativity and trying to direct how it is used, hardly an atmosphere for innovation. But this is also part of the learning curve, maybe Twitter can reexamine their acceptable use policies and make those available, add some transparency to their process.

But being creative is always more risky then being conventional, but check the exposure, visitors on your website and activity on Twitter… The result of this campaign is a straight flush!

I find it hilarious that you are bashing Twitter for being untransparent when you knowingly deceived people into thinking all #moonfruit tweets would be considered as entries. Joe White's claims indicate that you knew in advance there were discrepancies in the database you were relying on to choose your winner from. I wonder how glowing people would be if they found out that their entries never stood a chance of being chosen, and they were pimping #moonfruit for no possible gain. I find mass fraud to be much more annoying than the mere sight of a commercial name in the trending topics.

I think this was a brilliant marketing campain. Totally opt-in, no obnoxious unwanted direct messages or replies. Just a lottery with free tickets, and free participation. The added iPod touch for creativity made it even more loveable.

There is a big difference in pushing marketing onto people, and asking them to participate politely and giving something in return. For now, it was very original and fun.

I am 100% sure that big companies will take this idea and will execute it very poorly, making it into an obnoxious and arrogant marketing campain. Too bad for them, becausefor #moonfruit it has worked like a charm I think.

Keep up the good work, looking forward to your next brilliant idea.

Where you are on the trend list doesn't really impact too much on Twitter usage or cause irritation (it's just a stat). But you tweeted way too much, and that is one of main reasons that people get 'unfollowed'. It saturated my Twitter page. That was irritating. You learn a lot from a campaign and you seem savvy and sensitive enough to build positively on what you've achieved. All in all, great campaign. Well done.

Kudos to an incredible marketing campaign. I had never heard of Moonfruit before, and I do software development and deployment for 20 years now.

And you are right, Twitter will need to repsond to this, definitely. I hope they use this as a helpful happening to bring them forward as well.

A little backlash and mixed emotions starting to come through already, what will it be like once the 10 MBP's are gone and 40'000 + people don't have one after hours / days (10 to be precise) of twittering and creating creative eye catching responses to the campaign. How will the Moonfuit community feel with the external promotional campaign once it has ended, will there be a loyalty promo or giveaway?
My feelings are the campaign is huge and will probably prove to be a huge success, but "With great power comes great responsibility" - SpiderMan
Are you prepared for the negative backlash or are you hoping the positive will outweigh the negative, A marketing campaign always need's a backup plan,
P.s. Moonfruit is Awesome! i can not fault it, and if i could find anyone else offering their services and more i would be with them, the truth is i can't. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for your detailed note. Our subscribers are really at the heart of what we offer and the people we aim to please. We spend 90% of our resources on development and customer support, upgrading and supporting the software (free customers don't get support), and only a limited amount gets spent on marketing.

We have been blown away by the success of this Twitter campaign. The reason we chose Twitter was because it can go viral so quickly and is easy to pass on. Something that the other networks don't do so quickly or easily.

Both traditional marketing and the provision of free sites leads to more customers signing up. With more sign-ups we can hire more people and develop more quickly. We've just added to the Support team and now have ticket times back to a few hours and the Dev team will be added to again after the summer.

So thank you again for your feedback. We do hear you and want the same things you do - an awesome site builder with a full feature set and world class support. That's what we're aiming for and we're on the road to it!
