Interim Release - 13 October 2008
What's this? Another release? Well not quite, it's an update to our previous release and a small one at that. Although it does include a nice feature for domains and a bug fix.
The key feature of this release is the addition of the preferred site address. This means that if you have one or more domain names, you can select one of these as your main address and whenever anyone types in one of the other domain names then they will redirect automatically to your preferred address. This is a very powerful feature for those wishing to make the most of marketing their site and using one particular address. You can do this by logging in, going to Admin > Site Address and then selecting your preferred address from the drop down. Once you close the panel, your site will refresh and you will have to log in again, which you will only need to do once.
What we have also released is a fix to the Video-no-audio bug. So for those of you who had videos on your site and needed to refresh the page to hear the audio, this is now fixed. If you have multiple videos on the same page you may hear a short burst of sound which is another bug we are looking at but we felt that ensuring your videos played audio was more important.
And coming soon: Google Maps widget. A simple widget to start with that will allow you to set a location, zoom level and permit toggling of basic features. We are aiming to get this out next release along with a number of other features. So we will keep you posted.

I was unclear as to what benefits the preferred domain would have so decided to try it. I have selected a preferred domain name on one of my sites and things seem to have gone wrong though!
I followed your instructions however as soon as I closed to Site Address box my browser went blank and added " /?safeRedirect=1 " to the end of the address. I now cannot get back into this site to edit it in moonfriut, I cannot view the site with my domain name and I cannot see the site with the moonfriut address. Any ideas???
Also you suggest that this will help SEO (when it works properly). In what way exactly?
thanks
Justin
The exact same thing happened to me!!! I have several website address pointing to my moonfruit site and when I selected the nicest one as my main address it now hangs and I can't get back to the site to edit it back.
Please help me
Thanks
Hi guys,
Mikey, what you've done is set up a preferred domain that is NOT pointing correctly. In fact all of your domains are using masked forwarding which will render SEO very difficult to achieve. The quickest way out of this is to go back to your actual website address and add this string to the end of it to kill the redirection: ?safeRedirect=1
So Mikey in your case it would be:
http://hydrofuel-systems.moonfruit....
Log in and remove the preferred option until you sort out your domains to point to your website as per our instructions in the FAQ.
Justin, I would advise similar, just go back to the base address with the moonfruit domain and add that string at the end and then just remove the preference once logged in. Also I only mentioned Marketing, not SEO in the original article. What I meant, and should have been clearer with, is that some users want to use one particular domain name but many of their customers already have their original moonfruit address. This will ensure that once set up correctly, the preference will always appear in the browser window regardless of what is typed in, which has strong reinforcement value as far as a brand or domain name go.
Hope that makes sense.
Walt
Hi,
I just set up preferred address as my .co.uk, logged out, then found I cant log back in, when I log into my account and click the edit site button, it directs to the online .co.uk address and not the internal moonfruit edit site.
What can I do to log in?
Cheers.
Thanks Walt. I have followed your instructions an regained control of the site in question.
Can I assume that the domain name preference is then only really of use to those that have acyively used thier moonfruit names in the past? I am struggling to see a benefit otherwise.
The reason I specifically asked about SEO was that I noticed in the 'what's this' next to the Preffered Site Address area it says "...Search Engine Optimisation will be simpler and more effective."
thanks
Justin
i have the same issue as number 4 has got.
Hi Halo, and Stephanites, as with comments above, you will need to enter your original website name, e.g. myname.mooonfruit.com add /?safeRedirect=1 to the end of your site name and that should give you control of your site to login.
Once logged in set the preferred site address to none until you can sort out your domain name/s.
As with the customers above it appears you have selected a domain name that has not been set up correctly with your domain name provider to use Pointing. We'll be making changes today to ensure that only users with domain names set up to Point will work. That means that they have had their DNS A-record pointed to their site (on our web servers @ 146.101.249.107).
So just to summarise the fix. Go back to your original website address, the one with, for example, '.moonfruit.com' on the end, and add '/?safeRedirect=1' e.g. mysite.moonfruit.com/?safeRedirect=1
This will cancel the redirect, allow you to login and then undo the preferred site address selection.
Justin, thanks, glad to hear you managed to get back in.
Even with http://hutt.moonfruit.com/?safeRedi... I cannot log into the site to undo the chnage I made last night.
Any ideas?
Hi gmankeow,
This looks to be a different issue and less of a problem than the masked forwarding one.
When you set up a preferred address that you may not have logged in through before your system will be looking for a login cookie associated with that specific address.
So if you use, in your case, http://hutt.moonfruit.com/login your login panel will appear. Enter your username and password and leave the 'remember my details' box checked and you should not have this problem again. Unless of course you clear your cookies.
If you have any other problems let us know.
Thanks
FANTASTIC - domain redirects! Proof that MF really does listen. Thank you so much, one of my sites has been quite hurt in the SERPS for the whole duplicate content issue, but hopefully Google will crawl again soon and update its index of my site.
Plus no more watering down of inbound links going to different places. Can we have the choice to no follow links next please??!!
Hi Walt,
Thank you for your help, keep up the great work.
Have you any idea if the storage and bandwidth will be upgraded across the packaged this year?
Cheers.
Hi Keller, it's not in our immediate plans but we can see the benefit, so it will be something we consider further down the line.
Halo, no, we won't be upping storage or bandwidth for accounts at the minute.
Thanks
A Google Maps object was 'coming soon' in October 08 - it is now February 09 - is this still on the cards?
