RESOLVED: Service Disruption 06:10 BST (GMT +1) 25 Jun 2009
DETAIL: We are experiencing a large DDoS on one of our hosted sites, which is currently overloading our firewalls.
RESPONSE: Our technical team are working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible and should have it resolved shortly.
UPDATE: We are being flooded by an attack on one of our sites with 75% of all incoming traffic from over 2,300 IPs, which is causing all traffic to be congested and page load times to be affected. We are still currently investigating how to dynamically block this content.

Oh, Thank god, i thought it was just my website experiencing the lag.
Thanks for the notice.
thanks for the prompt response - much appreciated
I hate ddos attacks.. as mf have explained, its when someone has locked on lots of ip addresses constantly bombarding data to flood the servers... which causes any websites to load extremely slow.. the internets a great thing, apart from when you get so say selfish hackers causing disruption!! you'd think people would have better things to do with there own time! cheers for the update MF
You'll probably find its from a rival company
agreed jon.. moonfruit should be able to tell by tracking the IP's once they have done, submit a complaint to internic
You need these guys.... www.prolexic.com
Is this likely to take long, as my business is run through our website, this is extremely concerning? And how often does this happen? Should I be considering moving to somewhere else?
Hi Pharoahmanda,
This was fixed this morning. No it doesn't happen often. And in fact even the biggest banks, IT companies and software houses, suffer this type of attack occasionally. When it is severe all any company can do is manage it, block the IPs being used and get service back to normal as quickly as possible.
You are more than welcome to look around for another website building service but any where you do host your site or sites is open to attack as we have been.
In summary, this is not common and it was brought under control within a few hours.
Thanks - Walt
From my experience reading wikipedia, and basic programming skills, i can explain how a DDoS attack usually works, for those of you unaware. It normally consists of a "botnet" which is a chain of computers infected with a backdoor trojan, then the mallicious owner tells all the computers the rapidly connect to a site all at the same time, either spamming sockets or repeadetly visiting a link/page... This is unfortunate to happen. And is usually carried out by "script kiddies", but in most cases its hard to find the attacker, because of the amount of innocent people's computers being in the swarm. While the attacker does not connect on their own address. :/
Glad its stopped and that you've put measures to try and prevent this in the future.
Thanks for your comment, obviously dont want to look anywhere else as spent hours doing this site, Im no IT geek at all, own a Mac and love Moonfruit, but this put the frighteners on us this end as all our business goes through the site and its our busiest time of year.
Cheers
MY SITE IS STILL NOT ACCESSIBLE!!!!
Help anyone, and I cannot get to the usual moonfruit site to ask for help! Have emptied cache etc etc. Can someone go onto the moonfruit contact us and say www.homelypetz.com is still down, thanks
Your site seems to load fine to me, loads up fine.
Thanks Adam (phew) must be a Dubai internet problem, we live in The Emirates and have been known to have problems. Its strange because all the moonfruit sites are not coming up and yet get Yahoo, google etc . Oh well, will go to bed hope we can see it in the morning.
We have now tried to access our sites from various platforms, they are still not up! we depend for living on our websites, please can somebody send us an email contact at Moonfruit so we can communicate this issue.
Our sites are: homelypetz.com - andersonprotection.com - greatdanesindubai.com
We cannot access any Moonfruit or Sitemaker sites either.
Does our being located in Dubai have any impact on this issue? I can't see why it would but please advise?
We are in our bussiest period and our site gets considerable hits over he weekend, particularly on Friday, we just can't afford to be down!
Thanks
Well here we are awake again and what a disaster, our sites are still not accessible. This is causing us significant loss.
Moonfruit, HELP! we have no other way to cintact you to resolve this matter...
Here is what we get when trying to access from Firefox, we get similar when trying with Safari...
The connection was reset
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.
* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
Bizzar,
We can access the site via a VPN and through other ISP's but not our etisalat connection...
Yesterday was a nightmare trying to do anything. I know the Moonfruit site was largely inaccessible too, but it would have been nice to have a service status about this as soon as the problems started. I was checking this site all morning (when I could reach it) and there was nothing on it for hours.
You can even put service status reports on a totally separate server so it's not affeceted. Glad to see it's all back up and running again though.
CAN SOMEONE FROM MOONFRUIT PLEASE CONTACT US - OUR WEBSITE CANNOT BE FOUND ON THE SERVER THIS END!!!!! EVERYONE IS SAYING ITS BACK TO NORMAL ITS NOT, PEOPLE OUTSIDE OF DUBAI CAN SEE THE SITE BUT WE CANNOT. WE CAN ONLY ACCESS IT THROUGH FIREFOX, ALL OUR POTENTIAL CLIENT WILL NOT BE USING FIREFOX. THIS IS OUR BUSIEST TIME OF YEAR AND THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. PLEASE CONTACT US AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Data Petz or Pharoahmedia,
I can confirm that your site and your account are fine and perfectly visible. It certainly may be a localised issue relating to the range of IP addresses being used. Can you please visit the website highlighted below and tell us the IP address returned. Any blocked IP addresses we have scripted get released in two hours so access by specific IP addresses to a site should not normally be an issue. But give us the ip address and we can check for you: http://www.whatismyip.com/
Keller, we did do a notification and this is it. We continuously encourage users to visit this site, as it is hosted on different servers (from the Moonfruit sites) for updates on the Service. As for notification as soon as it started, we got one out as quickly as we could. We felt it was a higher priority to try and stop the attack first and this took some time.
Thanks
does sitemaker / moonfruit supports xml files?
Hi Tony,
We support HTML snippets which can be added through a Widget we have recently released. However the widget is in Beta and does have limitations. Please have a read of an article we produced earlier:

Thanks
I cant believe all the negative comments people write.. whats their issue? the internet is always open to attack, and ddos attacks are not moonfruits fault... yeh your site was offline for a couple of hours.. woopey, a couple of years ago you wouldnt of had an online business. I hate it when people quote 'should i move my business elsewhere'.. the chances are it could happen elsewhere.. if you dont understand what the problems are, then dont make ridiculous comments!
yeh come on guys Moonfruit doing all they can I know it can frustraiting at times a few of my sites are still having teething problems but I am coping at the moment..
The people who think it is ok to hack or bring down company's is the ones who need to be told off they think by hiding behind a computer screen there ok to do it..
I love Moonfruit and no doubt a lot of other's are jealous there number 1 and are quite happy to see them go down so they can nick there customers...
I have been loyal for well over 7 years now and intend to stick with them for in my eyes being number 1 :-)
Ps and no I am not being paid by moonfruit to say this !
anyone else having problems with access to websites? Any news moonfruit
Help,
I have five sites with moonfruit and not one is accessible. Can anyone tell me if they are having problems today and is the problem likely to be resolved soon.
Hi guys
I have four sites with Moonfruit and none of them are loading up. Its 09:50 GMT, i am in the UK. Also, Moonfruit main site not opening. I use the latest Firefox and have checked with two colleagues, neither of them can view, they use IE. I can confirm that only probs i am having is with Moonfruit sites.
Here is the error message for what its worth (Firefox):
*** Network Timeout

The requested site did not respond to a connection request and the browser has stopped waiting for a reply.
* Could the server be experiencing high demand or a temporary failure? Try again later.

I know that lots of people are very loyal to Moonfruit and that it is a great tool - but its not a resolved issue, YET. I do not think it is correct to continually report that the problem has been fixed, it clearly hasn't. You can't put it down to a few foreigners with their own localised issues.
Does anyone have any idea when i can expect my sites to be live?
yeah, no access from NZ as at 9.20pm NZT (plus 12 GMT I think)
Yes we are suffering another DDoS attack. We have posted another entry in the Lounge so please refer to that for further details.
The previous issue was resolved and full service was resumed to all customers. Today's attack is a separate issue and we are dealing with this on it's own merits.
At what point did we put it down to a few foreigners with localised issues? We clearly stated above that last weeks issue was DDoS attack and their were a few lingering issues that did get tidied up. We have also said the same in our recent post on this lounge that it is a DDoS attack.
We are doing our best to resolve this as quickly as possible.
Thanks
Yes it's an inconvenience but the service over the years has been great. If this is an isolated incident I can deal with it. It reminds me of an episode of Star Trek when Scotty was having trouble firing up the engine - "In four hours the ship blows up!"
